They're not trying to stick two fingers up to anybody. Besides, the Beijing opening ceremony was very delicate and poetic in parts. Canny of this year's opening ceremony organisers not to make too many references to the British Empire's blood-soaked colonial past though, and stick to showing a lot of prancing around to The Bee Gees and OMD instead...
