another question. fergie has got a touchline ban but he had an earpiece in at west ham and other week against bolton at old trafford he had a phone so im guessing he was in contact with the bench. up to yet they have won both their games while hes not been on the touchline so what is the touchline ban actually doing, cos surely he is communicating with the bench while he is in the stands is he not? any1 with any knowledge wanna give me an answer, and you feel free as well to answer if you want to mitch!

mf apparantly radio communications are banned but the loop hole is phones (like the white old one he used against bolton or the earpiece connected to a mobile?). the rule should be the same as in rugby where the manager is banned from entering the stadium on matchday. also could add a points deduction which would include any player other than the captian surrounding the ref or showing distent (abusive langauge, mouthing off etc). this might stop managers and players disrepecting the ref because if they did then the whole team gets punished which could halt any title, european or survivual ambitions they have.

so although he has a touchline ban hes not really been penalised has he, cos hes still making the decisions. it must have been his decision to replace evra and put giggs at left back, although that was done at half time and later in the game it must have been his decision to bring hernandez and berbatov on. so really what is his punishment? if he is on the bench its not often he gets up anyway is it? he leaves it to others. a touchline ban to me what i have seen doesnt really make alot of difference, maybe the way to go his to dock points, then maybe managers wont step out of line especially if it cost their teams the league, a european place or relegation.

I've just come back from a few days away in Lanzarote, where, looking at some of the football-related merchandise on sale in the tat-laden souvenir shops at the main resorts, I noticed some interesting things.

The only English football teams who are recognised on this Spanish Canary island are Liverpool and someone called Manchester Manchester - they even have a badge very similar to United but the word United is incredulously replaced by another Manchester - bizarre!

The only players plying their trade in the Premiership who are recognised are Gerrard and Torres of Liverpool and Rooney of Manchester Manchester, whilst the only home-based superstars seem to be Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid and Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta of Barcelona, the latter's face adorning every fucking icecream advert on the island it'd seem.

But most tellingly, there are countless small fenced-off football pitches with nets and immaculately preserved pitches where the best young lads can master and hone their talents and skills in sun-kissed environments. And England fans still wonder why our supposedly mental-toughness bankrupt stars flop whenever they face the Spaniards and in fairness Portuguese, who also place such a strong emphasis on sports' development.
