RE: Liverpool FC
There's nothing Mickey mouse about going to Wembley and coming away with a pot, lets get that right. Football's all about winning trophies. We've been brilliant in the cups so far this season, it's been boss. If we come out with the League and FA Cups, there's absoloutly no doubt that's progress. Would be a brilliant platform for a half decent crack at the league next season.

All the talk about fourth place bores me to sleep, because lets be honest, 4th is f***ing knowhere really. I want us back challenging for top spot and getting to Wembley every other season, that's what we're after. Not trying to sneek into 4th.

The Champions League should be, the CHAMPIONS league. An elite tournament for the No1 team from every country in Europe.

Results in the league this year have been woefully inconsistent again. Our performances have improved and we've been unlucky in more than a few games but still, the league table doesn't usually lie. We need to be a million times more clinical in front of goal and take our chances, coz we've made plenty. To lose last night, after completely controlling the game for 75 mins was an absoloute joke. Was speechless after. Couldn't believe it.

Wembley here we come again. C'mon redmen!

That was a damaging result not just for Liverpool but also for Wolves. QPR winning takes them clear of the drop zone. There's a bit of a gap there now, and I fear my lot are going to be cut adrift. I take some confidence from the fact that QPR still have to play Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Man United and Man City, but I was kind of hoping the Reds would do us a bit of a favour tonight. I always thought Liverpool and Wolves were friends.

Come on lads, you want the Liverpool vs Wolves matches again next season don't you? Sad

Sorry to interject in the Liverpool thread but this stirred an emotion or two...

This, this is, nail, hit, head !!! This is what football should be about. Like you're saying the "race for 4th" is embarrassing. Clubs and supporters now look to 4th place, Arsene Wenger himself prides himself on consecutive top 4 finishes.
Get a fucking grip! 4th is 4th. It is a ticket into the "Not necessarily Champions League" . It is quite frankly a bore!! Teams set out to finish 4th!!!! What a fucking joke, set out to win for fucks sake!

My mate is a season ticket holder at Spurs and he said the best day of supporting Spurs was watching them win the league cup a few years a go. He went away to Milan for the Champions league, and to some other European cities, but the best as still seeing them win the league cup at Wembley.

Silverware is what football is about, winning honours, not cheating honour to earn a ticket to "the holy grail" fuck that!!! That's where football is dying, every club and supporter is chasing the money land, no one believes in team that doesn't have money!!

One last thing, Greece won the Euro's. Who'd have believe that when the tournament started? Only the Greeks would have. Play as a team, win as a team and lose as a team, but never settle for 4th at the start of a campaign. Go out to win EVERYTHING you can possibly win.

The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.

RE: Liverpool FC
No fan or employee of Liverpool sets a pre season target of finishing in 4th place, they set a target of a minimum of 4th place as this gets you 2 games away from the Champions League, a competition rebranded from the European Cup. Liverpool even with 20+ years without a domestic title are still one of the top 5 clubs in Europe.

The Champions League should be for champions is fucking silly it's just a name... Why do Cardiff & Swansea play in the English league!!!

Money is what the world is about in this day & age & don't tell me it isn't as this week we've all been bitching one way or another after yet more fuck ups in the latest Budget!!!

Arsenal are a well run club who I'm sure could spend £20m every season on transfers if they had a manager with the balls to do so & this would be possible due to them being in the Champions League every season.

As for setting out to win every game well this might be possible in tactics & speech but not in reality & the reason for this is teams like Stoke who through being new to the Premier League did well through old fashioned hard graft & then spending the millions they recieved through a high Premier League finish, Everton who haven't got millions to spend eventhough they finish in the top 10 most seasons but they are a though team to beat through the work they put in.

This is what makes the Premier League great & tough to play in & for this reason I personally don't see a problem setting out with the minimum goal of 4th place as it brings the possibility of trips to the Camp Nou, San Siro etc etc & I know these grounds & teams are a lot more appealing than grounds in Slovakia & Greece.

Ask yourself this would you take the Carling Cup once every 2 seasons along with 6,7,8 in the league or six years without a cup but playing in the European Cup (Thats what we call it) every season???

Groundnpound I can't remember if you were there all those years ago or not but if you were then ask yourself which was the best night of your Liverpool life, Wembley 26 February 2012 or Atatürk Stadium 25th May 2005.

If we don't get in the Champions League in the next 3 yeas players like Luis Suarez & Pepe Reina will no longer ba playing for us nor will these type of players be signing for us & don't tell me you'd much prefer Andy Carroll.

We're tactically a poor team & look nowhere near getting in with a chance of having "A half decent crack at the league next season". Remamber we've only finished 2nd once & even them we never felt like we were in a title challenge.

4th in the Premier League might not be as big a dream than a trip to Wemley for teams like Stoke & Sunderland but for us it's the gateway to the stadiums most fans still believe we should be playing in.

RE: Liverpool FC
Agree with some of that mate, disagree with other bits.

Nothing beats a European Cup night at Anfield.

We all want those nights back. Badly.

It's not all about money though in my book. Not at our club, a club with our history. Were built on dominating leagues and winning trophies. Of course the riches that come with playing in the Champions league are important these days but it's took over our game for me. It devalues our cup competitions, teams are setting out at the start of the season with their top target being a place in the top 4. Steven Gerrard said it the other day, that lifting trophies as captain of Liverpool is what it's all about for him. I want us chasing the title every year, i want us at cup finals, whether its League, FA, UEFA or European cup. That's what supporting Liverpool's all about for me. Not playing a reserve side in the domestic cups in the hope we'll get fourth. It's the excitement of a trip to Cardiff or Wembley or somewhere in Europe for a showpiece final, the stories you bring home, the memories you take away that will stay with you forever that's important to me.

Agreed they should rename the Champions League. Because there's more non Champions in the competition than actual Champions! They're never gonna go back to it being solely for Champs though, so i guess that was pretty daft but it should be in my opinion. Champs only, 2 leg knockout tournament. European Cup. Old school.

Don't agree with you that we're a tactically poor team & look nowhere near getting in with a chance of a title. I think we've been inconsistent for far too long but Kenny's got us moving in the right direction, playing some proper football and creating lots of chances. We're in with a good shout of winning both cups this year and for me we only need to be a bit more clinical next season and have a bit more luck and we could be bang there hopefully. The King will bring the title back to Anfield. I believe that with all my heart mate.

Istanbul was the best day and best night of my life full stop. It's closely followed though by Dortmund against Alaves (UEFA CUP), Cardiff against Birmingham ( LEAGUE CUP), Arsenal (FA CUP), United (LEAGUE CUP), West Ham (FA CUP) and Wembley the other week.

I'll never forget any of them. That's what football is for me.

Any player worth his salt will look back at the end of his career and will be more satisfied with how many medals he has won rather than how many times he finished 4th in the Premier League.

Judge me by my size do you? Hmmm? Hmmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the force. And a powerful ally it is.

For the individual fan it might not be about money, I guess thats what gives us these kind of forum/pub/match day discussions but for the clubs this is the upmost importance in the moden day.
Clubs are no longer that but now a business run by owners rather than a chairman some with more money than sense (£2B Abramovich), look at Portsmouth, Port Vale, Rangers, most clubs in Spain & god knows how many more.

History is history mate when football was football, now it's a bit different, sooner or later we're gonna have a machine to tell us if Luis Garcia did actually score or not, "Istanbul was the best day and best night of my life full stop" & we haven't even competed in the Premier League (Moden day).

I get what your saying on Gerrard but if we were in a European Cup qualifier away at Brondby then he'd be saying this is the most important game of the last few season as Liverpool football club should be playing in the Champions League every season it's the biggest club competition in the world & as a player & captain of Liverpool it's the competition you want to play in.
As for playing reserve sides in domestic cups I'd much rather we concetrated on the league as I think eventhough we look way off the pace that pace has slowed somewhat the past two seasons & a Liverpool team concentrating soley on the league would bring us a higher finish be it 4th or 2nd & playing a mix of players not in the team every week & young players in the domestic cups especially the Carling Cup (It only gets you into the qualifing stages) would only better us in the long run, I'd love to see Conor Coady, Danny Wilson, Jon Flanagan, Jack Robinson, Suso, Raheem Sterling & Adam Morgan playing alongside Maxi, Jay Spearing & Martin Kelly away at Swindon.

What has Dirk Kuyt won at Liverpool, the Carling Cup & lost two other finals including the European Cup final. He spoke about how happy he was to win a medal but if we don't get in the Champions League for another 4 seasons at which point he leaves the club, yes he'll speak of his Wembley memories but he'll also quietly be thinking about the 2nd Milan final & all the glory the club had before he came & the fact he played for us in the worst period we've had for 10 to 15 years.

I'm very confident in saying if you ask a Liverpool player what would they rather have in five years time, 1 Fa Cup 2 Carling Cups & a UEFA Cup quarter final or 3 seasons in the European Cup with 2 quarter finals & a semi??? They'd probably tell you the medals but at the same time telling themselves they'd love the Champions League moments!!!

Come on I know it's Kenny but we're playing no better if not slightly less threatening than we did with Rafa & it depends on what you call lots of chances as I don't see us creating many goal scoring chances, a shot at goal isn't necessarily a goal scoring chance where the keeper needs to make an effor to save the ball (This is one area we are pretty poor).

"we only need to be a bit more clinical next season and have a bit more luck and we could be bang there hopefully", we've needed to be a bit more clinical for far far too long now & players like Andy Carroll won't help no matter how much gloss you want to put on it & as for luck it's not even a word it annoys me when managers come out with it as it shows they don't have an answer, 'luck' what does it mean realistically???

For season ticket holders such as yourself who get Cup/European tickets easier I can understand what your saying, footballing memories with your family/mates are a lot better than a night out with the lads where you all managed to get some sexy time.
Some of my best footballing memories are going to non league/football league grounds with one of my mates who doesn't support a Premier League team, but I wouldn't swap them for the night I spent ill on the sofa watching the 2005 final & the amount of energy I felt after watching Dudek do his Grobbelaar impression.

We've all got our own oppinions & mine is we're way off the top whatever league position that is & whoever the manager has been the last 5 or 6 seasons haven't changed & on this basis I don't see next season being any different..... Unless we get some luck!!!

I for one am totally unhappy with this season with the money spent we have been tactically inept this season. Not sure Dalglish is the one to take us forward.
