Maybe now we may see the beginning of the end of Mr Blatter. But I cannot see how FIFA can regain any credibility (even if Blatter is forced to stand down and forced out) after dismissing Garcia's appeal and whitewashing his report.

For me, the only way forward would be for FIFA to disband and a new world soccer body is formed thus consigning FIFA to soccer history.

What do you guys think?

(1) I will believe that Blatter is gone on February 1, after the deadline for candidacy registration is passed

(2) If talks are genuinely underway about him standing aside, then I expect that he will be seeking assurances that he will not be accused or prosecuted retrospectively for any form of corruption that may be discovered by his successor

(3) I don't think that scrapping FIFA altogether is necessary. Seems like a bit of the baby-and-the-bathwater over reaction. The IOC reformed itself; why can't FIFA? It just needs better governance and more transparency and that demands a leadership that is not anchored by past scandals. No reason why that can't be done "from within".

(4) Not sure what people are expecting that report to say. I seriously doubt that there is a "smoking gun" in there. Even the Sunday Times -- which has a serious axe to grind -- complained when it was submitted that its terms of reference were far too limited to uncover anything substantial. It is only perceived to be a bombshell because of Garcia's resignation. And he may be just as offended at being personally misquoted as he is about justice not being served. I think it is playing into Blatter's hands for people to talk about the "full report" as if it is the final word on this whole fiasco. It will eventually be published; there will be nothing in it; and then FIFA will have all the moral grounds to say, "enough is enough; it really is over now".
