Congratulations to Spurs for a job well done, they did not have their best game tonight but did enough to make it through. If they can avoid Barcelona in the quarter-finals then i can see them going all the way.

Their football has been a credit to the champions league.

Yeah, Tottenham have been like the new kid on the block this season; the players and fans alike have encapsulated the glamour and sense of occasion in the Champions League like those of United, Chelsea and Arsenal have failed to do so.

The problem for the Champions League regulars is that of familiarity breeding contempt - Schalke and Shakhtar Donetsk are the only two sides left in at the last-16 stage that I've never seen live at Old Trafford - but for Spurs fans this really is living the dream, and good luck to them as they're a fine club who play the game the right way.

Hard as it is to believe Arsenal never managed a shot on target last night, it just goes to show how good this Barcelona side is! It seems almost unfair that the World and European International champions should be further boosted by the peerless Lionel Messi. They are so blessed to have all these stars at one time, and I personally cannot see anyone living with them this season. After last season's Mourinho-inspired substance over style that was Inter Milan, it'd just seem right if Barcelona regained their crown and might inspire other coaches/managers to adopt a more pleasing-on-the-eye approach to the so-called beautiful game.

Any yeah, thanks for the Foxy tip-off Bigguy, but I'll miss it as I'm at a gig tomorrow nightSadannoyedRolleyes!

Well done spurs but i'm still pissed off because of the Barca game last night. Just for once, because we know how good barca are can they just go through withoout assistance from the referees. Look at the chelsea game a few years with that referee that stuffed chelsea over at the bridge by denying chelsea like 3 or 4 clear penalties

you can tell by the atsmophere inside the grounds, the man utd, chelsea and arsenal expect champions league football so they sit there in silence waiting for the players to do something special. liverpool and spurs have a good atmosphere on european nights.

dont underestimate schalke and donestsk, both are the "big boys" outside the usual "big boys". it would be great to see eduardo play against spurs, chelsea or man utd, unfairly sold by asrsenal especially considering that bendtner is crap.

Shaktar beat Arsenal at home and they have the four brazilians that look and play great link ups between them. And also to go there in the freezing temperatures will play a factor. Especially if your from madrid or barca

And Schalke have Raul up front who is still banging in the goals

RE: Football Banter
I'm certainly not underestimating Shakhtar Donetsk nor Schalke 04; Shakhtar always seem to draw Arsenal in Europe, and I'd love to see them as my collection of European teams seen has stagnated of lateSad and it seems like the same-old teams over and over every year.

This current United side is so poor that to be honest I'm not even confident of getting past Marseille next Tuesday, not that I'm all that bothered as it's all about the Premiership for me; the Champions League is just a cup at the end of the day, albeit a prestigious one.

On a separate point, I notice that Steven Gerrard looks like he may be out for a few matches with a groin injury after being brought back too soon last Sunday. This reminds me of when Alan Shearar was always being brought back too soo from injury by Blackburn Rovers in the mid 1990s, only to suffer relapses and further spells on the sidelines. And who was his manager at the time...bladewave

Just an observation...

Or maybe an excuse finally to fire off a shot towards Liverpool eh??

I suppose it's been 4 or 5 days since Kenny's boys made SAF's boys look like mugs so maybe you feel enough time may have passed to take a popBig Grin

It had struck me that you had been unusually quiet since SundaySmile

No football manager is a doctor at the end of the day, and if the medical team and the player himself deems your captain and most inspirational player to be fit then what does a manager do?? Keep the player on the bench?? I dont think so.

I'm sure SAF would agree with this after his dealings with Owen Hargreaves. How many attempts has he had to make his comeback only to break down again?? Wink Similar can be said for Mr. Ferdinand.

Judge me by my size do you? Hmmm? Hmmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the force. And a powerful ally it is.

I don't care who draws who. As long as Barcelona get knocked the fuck out of this champions league and don't win it again ever. They maybe the best team to watch and play the best football. But Barcelona are one of the shittest teams when it comes to fair play and they cannot take losing. Just take a look at Valdes trying to stop Mourinho celebrating after the final whistle. The barcelona ground staff deliberately turning on the sprinklers while Inter Milan were celebrating on the pitch. Busquets diving the cheating cunt, and then winking because he got Motta sent off last year. And Abidal grabbing Van persie by the throat and getting away with it even though it's on video for everyone to see.

So they may play the best football, be attractive to watch, but they are dirty and try and cheat. And they can't take losing either. So glad Mourinho and Inter did them over last season. Hopefully someone else can knock Barcelona out this season.

fergie brought rooney back too soon, 2nd leg against bayern munich, which lead to rooney being absolutly crap this season and at the world.

ashley cole gets away with shooting a work placement student with an airrifle, bloody fucking typical of the rich and famous getting away with breaking law, if it was one of us "normal" everyday people we would brought to the judge and sentenced.
