Something's just occurred to me. If the caller was abusive as you claim, Barry, wasn't 'miserable' an odd word to use? Maybe it's just me, but I'd have thought something like, "How dare you talk to me like that?" would have made more sense than "You miserable fucking Irish (something)"

I put it to you that he wasn't abusive at all, and that he was just shy - probably failing to enthuse and partake in the phone sex the way you wanted him too. When you eventually scared him off with your aggressivness and he hung up, you became abusive.
