I was wondering if anyone on here knows anything about dvd players. Am thinking about getting the Toshiba SD490 dvd player, there selling one on play.com for 60 quid. Only problem is that its a region 2 and i need it play different region's. The current dvd player i have now is a Toshiba SD-330 which is multi region as i bough it chipped a few years ago. Is there a way to hack and type in a code into the SD490 model and make it region free and if yes would i have to keep typing in the code each time i need to play a different region disc.?
Here you go http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thr...982&Type=1 It seems that this player is one of the 'remote hackable' ones and it looks like a permanent 'hack'. Smile

Thanks for the info mate, its really helped now am in two minds about which model of toshiba dvd player to get. play.com are selling the Toshiba SD-590 for 49 quid and the Toshiba XD-E500 Advanced for 84 quid i don't wanna go all out on money on dvd player, i just want something that will do a good job with picture quality not bothered with sound as i have a 5.1/dts cinema set up. Plus i have a PS3 already so i really wanted quality i could blue ray with it. just that i have over 1000 dvds and fancy replacing them all on the blu ray quite yet. Play have also got the Sony DVP-NS718H which i don't know if its any good i tend to stick to one good company, can any one help?
I have a year old Sony and it does give a very good upscaled picture on my Toshiba LCD TV.The trouble with most of the new Sony's is that you have to buy one of those 'One For All' Chameleon remotes to programme the region hack into the player. You can't do it with the supplied remote.Me and my two mates bought the Sony form Amazon as it was on offer and then found a Chameleon remote for half price at Richer Sounds so saved a bit of money that way. It's probably easier to opt for a Toshiba or Philips that can be hacked with the standard remote though. Most branded DVD players with upscaling are near impossible to tell apart, picture quality wise, these days so I can't see you going wrong.
