Tommy Smyth, but i really have no idea what he saying most times Smile

I was watching coverage of the Tour of Britain cycling race on ITV4 this afternoon and it was quite bizarre that one of the commentators sounded exactly like Frankie Boyle.
He didn't say anything controversial though, not even when someone landed upside down in a ditch.
7/10.

I well remember the days when football on telly meant Match of the Day and, for us in the North West, Kick Off with Gerald Sinstadt. We had to rely on the radio for European matches and internationals and Peter Jones's voice always takes me back 30 years when his commentaries are replayed. The current crop could learn a hell of a lot from him.

Peter Jones was brilliant. His closing summary on the day of the Hillsborough disaster still makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up even after all these years.

Interesting that when Ken Wolstenholme went off in a huff and quit the BBC in 1971, Jones was pencilled in to move over to television. However, it later emerged that David Coleman was having none of it as Jones would have been a real threat to him taking over the number 1 slot.

As has been well documented elsewhere, Coleman could be a very difficult guy to work with but his gravitas, standing and popularity meant that he could get virtually anything he wanted and if he didn't want Jones at MOTD he wouldn't go there!

Older members will remember a Scottish guy by the name of Sam Leitch who used to present "Football Focus". Well Leitch was, in fact, Head of Football at the BBC and he had to look elsewhere for a replacement. He settled on a novice radio reporter...by the name of John Motson!
It's amatuer night on Match of the Day tonight.
Is this the best that the BBC can find. annoyed
So sick of football pundits that are biased towards their previous clubs. They are not being paid to wax lyrical about their old clubs and piss on former rivals, they are supposedly paid for a balanced opinion. Most of them act like glorified cheerleaders.
John Motson's doing his last live commentary this weekend.
