Derek Underwood, one of England and Kent's greatest ever bowlers, has died at the age of 78.RIP.
A bit before my time, but as a keen cricket historian I have seen plenty of archive footage. He was quite unique in the style that he bowled in terms of pace for a spinner. His record speaks for itself in the era that he played & compares well against the great spinners in the modern day game. He did benefit from bowling on uncovered wickets, when he was practically unplayable at times.

RIP

Deadly

(NB. I'm not being disrespectful, that was his nickname)
Well said sir one of Englands best ever slow bowlers.
RIP DEADLY.
He is up there with the likes of Benaud, Bedi (from his era), Edmonds, Emburey and Warne (from the more modern times). His bowling record does speak for itself and how he managed to turn games round when it mattered. Uncovered wickets were a real benefit to him and made batsmen look ordinary.

Condolences to all
Probably the last time we had a world class spin bowler...
