Whatever happens from here on in Ollie Pope has played better and better as his innings has progressed. England have clung on and clung on. Still battling away.

England won by 28 runs
You wouldn't have given England a prayer of winning this match.
Absolutely Charlemagne especially after the first two sessions on day 1
Not won yet, 50 partnership between Bharat & Ashwin.

Massive wicket from Hartley to dismiss Bharat, & a 5 for in his maiden Test.

Ashwin out stumped, 177-9
England beat India by 28 runs, Hartley took the 10th wickets, his 7th, as England had claimed the extra half an hour to complete the victory.
Both teams make mistakes & I expect they will be more ruthless in the coming matches. I stand by what I said about how Stokes handled Hartley. The great Shane Warne was an advocate of having an in-out field at the start of a spell, (himself included) with boundary savers, in order to settle in, then bring fielders in as required.
India could've killed the game in their first batting innings, with well set batters throwing away wickets to poor bowling caught in the deep.
Ridiculous for England to pull off a victory with 3 bowlers with one Test between them & an injured Leach.
A mention to Bumrah, who took wickets on a track with nothing in it for pace bowling, he is highly skilled.
Hopefully the innings of Pope will see him kick on, he has always had immense talent, just needs to deliver on a regular basis, especially in the key No.3 position.

What a turnaround! and the Windies turning over the Aussies too?? I actually - in terms of O Pope I think that he - to this point - has had a solid enough England Test showing! Definitely his slot is at #3, and in conditions as in India, he has the ideal anchor game! Bumrah?? yes enough said! He has proven his world class status over and over!!
Injury issues for India with Rahul & Jadeja ruled out of the 2nd Test. Middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan, slow left arm Saurabt Kumar, & Washington Sundar have been added to the squad.
