After all the wonky build-up because of the catastrophic fires, notable results from Day 1 saw Dan Evans recover from 2 sets down to win 3-2, and teen sensation Coco Gauff drew and beat Venus Williams once again.
Jo Konta and Kyle Edmund bit the dust, though.
Harriet Dart having won 3 matches to qualify for the Australian Open won her first round match against Mischa Doi 7-6 in the third and plays Simona Haleo in round 2
Heather Watson won through, but Evans lost in straight sets.
Watson and Harriet Dart got beat, thus ending Brit involvement.
Harriett Dart played well against Halep. Was a much better experience for her on that court as she lost to Sharapova 6-0, 6-0 there last year

Watson had beaten Mertens last week in Hobart so was expecting a much tighter match.

Second year in a row there are no Brits in 3rd round
Not sure about the Doubles though. We forget them really, but there seems a few Brits slogging away there.
