Just woke up it is 5:25 and it is dark outside - the first real sign for me that Summer is over.

The second sign would be that Sunday would be 1st September.

And the third sign would when we put our clocks back.

Which three signs of summer is over do you look out for?
Cooler weather especially at night.

Conkers appearing on trees or blown to the ground by a strong wind.

Getting darker much earlier (around 8.30pm late August to around 6.45pm early October.)

Technically it is the start of meteorological Autumn on 1st September but real Autumn is around mid September. Usually coinciding with Rosh Hashanah(Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur(Day of Atonement)
You start to get that feeling of the season changing somewhere inside, but you can’t pin down where exactly you feel it, it’s just there.

The leaves on the trees are another giveaway, they haven’t changed colour yet but they have that dirty and tired green look about them. The swallows, swifts and house martins, our summer visitors have either already gone or are about to go.

The wind blows daily, the blue of the sky no longer has that gentle look that it had during the height of summer, it almost looks harsher somehow, the shadows in the evenings are longer than they were, and of course they are ever earlier with the passing of the days.

You know in your very soul that the time until Autumn comes and kicks the Summer out on its treacherous arse draws ever nearer, the year gets ever older until the first winter snow delivers the last rites.
Dour yet poetic! Smile
