The fact that he was Australian and not a New Zealander is telling, as it shows how latent the racism still is in Australia. I was there in 1993 in Freemantle and a large black American submariner was walking through the street and everybody was staring at him-to them a black person is Aboriginal. It also shows how diverse New Zealand is now but it is terribly sad that a small island at the back end of the world has to have something like this knock on their door and could well change the country forever.
Hi Green Machine,
I lived in Perth in 1974 and Freemantle and Perth were great places to live provided you were white. Lots of landlords would only rent to white people.
In 1986 I lived in Auckland for 3 years, different place even then, never once did I encounter discrimination there.
Tragic what has happened, but listening to a anti terrorist spokesperson on SKY it does appear as if Christchurch does have a problem with discrimination and low level graffiti/ violence, so there was something in the background, it is just come to the foreground.
I can only feel sympathy for the families and friends of the deceased and injured
^^ Well we sent the missionarys to New Zealand and the Convicts to Australia and 200 years later it still shows
Yeah Aussies can be racist as fuck used to be the aboriginals then it was those who came from the Med mainly greece and italy nicknamed Wog's then was the Vietmanese and chinese that started coming over
