I received an email today to say that as a Google + consumer, I should know that they are shutting it down in April and all content will be deleted.
I have been searching for info on this and can not find any clear answer as to what exactly this will mean. Specifically, can anyone tell me if this will affect Google Drive?
From what I can gather, there are a lot of people who didn't know they even had signed up to this, or whether Google + content is the same as Google photos etc, or an entirely separate thing.
I have videos uploaded on Google Drive, will they be safe, does anyone know?
I received an email the other day, telling me that my google drive account would be closed due to non activity of 2yrs..

Particularly odd, because until they sent me the email ... I had no idea I even had one?
Google+ has nothing to do with Google My Business (if you have an account), Google Drive, Google Docs or Google Photo.

Save your photos to Google Photos if you want to keep them.

None of the content on Google Drive is affected by the closure of Google+, which is Google's third (and hopefully last) attempt to compete head-on with Facebook.

Yes I got that email too. Interesting, because I had no idea I was a Google+ consumer. I can't recall ever visiting Google+.
Many people are Google+ consumers without even knowing it. If you have a Google account, you've probably been given a Google+ account by default.
It was Google's attempt to rival the likes of Facebook as a social media platform. It actually had some good ideas such as Circles in grouping different sets people you want to share content with. Unfortunately it was always doomed to failure against Facebook through sheer lack of numbers using it in comparison. Surprised they actually kept it running for so long, but news of that previously unreported data breach must've hastened it's closedown
