I don't know if it's just me that has an icon at the bottom of the screen offering a free upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, I haven't bothered to upgrade yet as I'd really like to get some feedback first as to if it's really worth all the hassle as I suspect its only a basic scaled down version of it Rolleyes
As far as I know its still in the beta version. In other words you can expect it to have bugs and glitches. I'm running it on a windows phone and find it really good. MS are doing their best to make sure this has a smooth launch. I believe there will be several options when it does go fully live this summer.
MS10 only in Beta preview version at the moment

Bought a New SSD drive that was on special and put it on that and Its great much better than 8.1 interface is a mixture of windows 7 and windows 8 so the start button is back and all the kiosk options are on the start bar

Also the Replacement for Internet Explorer is a godsend Internet explorer was like something from the dark ages

When its out think its out autum prob october or november it will be a upgrade for anyone who has a Windows 7 or 8.1 licence

think they have gone down the free OS route so you will use there services like Office 365 and there cloud services thats where the money is now
yes its still beta but that button will tell you when the final release candidate is ready for download.
basically its just an email notification that will tell you when win 10 goes live and is ready to download.
29th of july is the official release day.
update KB3035583 is responcable for the icon in the sys tray so if you want to remove it remove the update
from the installed updates list in add/remove programs.

the file associated with it. is GWX.exe in task manger. kill it befor you try to uninstall the KB3035583 windows update.
dont worry you can still manually download windows later or re-install the update closer to the release date.
I read today that by clicking on the icon registers the user for the free win 10 update when it gets released on 29th July (as Hexit previously mentioned)
link?
Well I'm still in 2 minds whether or not to go for the upgrade, I hated Windows 8 with a passion but since doing the update to 8.1 I've actually got used to it and I fear that with an upgrade some of the kinks might not yet be ironed out yet.

There is no such thing as a free lunch as to say and with the upgrade then it effectively makes you a guinea pig to microsoft and what happens if Windows 10 has the same flaws that Windows 8 has will we be offered another free upgrade to Windows 10.1 It's a bit of gamble if you ask me.
From what I have read about windows 10 is that it is more or less like windows 8/8.1 with the start button back. apparently it is a combination of wndows 7 and 8 just like windows 7 was vista with xp coding.

windows 8.1 was an improvement on vista.

the only issue I have is that if I don't like windows 10 is how to back to windows 8.1?
