The revamped thunderbirds is starting this Easter Saturday at 5pm on itv. Have to say it's looking really good and am quite looking forward to watching it
Knock yourself out. The original is a classic and should never have been "re-imagined" or whatever they're calling it this week.

Agreed... the heart of thunderbirds was in the strings Big Grin The advert for the new one leaves me cold.
Wondering at the model-making skills when watching the original series was a big part of why I liked it, at a time when I was spending most of my pocket money on airfix kits, so the cgi version is utterly pointless to me. However, cgi is probably the new model-making for today's youngsters, so there you go.
was a special show on itv2 today about it this evening and it's a mixture of physical sets and cgi. looks really good to me
As a child of the 60's and 70's I grew up with Thuunderbirds. It is classic tv. Having said that after watching the making of the series on ITV 2 last night it seems obvious that the new series captures the essence of the original with everyone involved, being true Thunderbird fans. They even have Sylvia Anderson and the actor who voiced Parker appearing.
It will no doubt leave some cold but times move on and this is a series aimed more at a new generation of children, rather than a bunch of 40 and 50 year olds...though I'm sure they are welcome along for the ride.

Why don't they just show the original episodes again.

The charm is in the strings. That's the whole point.

Stingray, stingray, dah, dah, duh, duh.
I can usually tell if a new show will be any good by the amount of times they play the trailers during ad breaks in other shows.

Thunderbirds Are Go is being rammed down our throats during almost every break on ITV. This does not encourage me.
Perhaps this new series is for todays children and not those of us from older generations with fond memories from our childhood.
It will certainly not be the same as the original series but put the original series on for todays youngsters to compare and they would probably prefer to newer series.
My view is I have no issue with cgi but I would prefer it to look a bit more grown up in appearance. Still will give it a chance.
Anyone wanting the strings and oversized heads can get all 32 episodes plus featurettes on dvd for £12 on Amazon Wink
I love all the old Gerry Anderson series especially Thunderbirds, stingray and fireball XL5. There is no way CGI can recreate the magic of those shows.
