I am Absolutely gobsmacked as to how much the new TV deals for next 3 seasons are costing how in god's name has that been allowed to spiral out of control? These deals will probably not have much bearing on the clubs below the PL except many are more likely to go into administration as a result, and also how much would they get from it. It wouldn't surprise me if many stadiums will soon be half empty or empty because of inflated ticket prices (And I would be willing to bet that many fans will choose to sit at home and watch it on TV rather than got the stadium).
I just wonder if the FA, PL has hardly realised that we have been through five years of austerity and they think it is good to get TV companies to pay stupid money (Nearly £5.5bn) for TV rights? They must think football has been immune to all that has happened in 'the real world'!!

I wonder how many clubs will be around in three years' time when this deal ends? And I would not be surprised if Sky walk away from football completely at the end of it too.
The team finishing bottom of the EPL will earn more money than the winners of the Champions League! WTF
The amount I saw reported was £5.1 billion.
You could buy 60 Gareth Bales for that.
Sadly, I'm not surprised by this.

Football has become a incredibly big money game since the 90's with even bigger businesses in the media and elsewhere willing to pay for it, so it's easy money. Not so easy for loyal fans to pay for tickets to see what use to be an affordable, social sport.

Mind you, I've been talking to the Shire horses in the other field and they are divided whether it's

a. A secret plan to gain enough money to play Qatar and Russia at their own game and win the hosting right to the next couple of World Cups through some "generous donations".

b. Another secret plan to genetically engineer the perfect England squad and secure victory in the next few World Cups and act as a band of super-heroic role models to increase the UK's prestige around the world with daring acts of heroism with all the savoir-faire of a thousand James Bond's (your choice of Bond).

or

c. Both.

With that sort of sum of money being touted, [c] is not entirely implausible...

I wonder if another secret ploy is to make the PL eventually become the European Super League?
Just to clarify, the thread title is wrong. The new deal is not for next season.

It is for the 3 seasons 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19.
Apologies guys

Hope I have altered it now
I always thought it was obscene that the relegated PL team gets more than the Scottish champions (despite the difference in quality when I saw the figures some years ago the difference was bordering on obscene) but this is just getting stupid now!

The amounts of money involved in football in this country will only stop rising if
A, people say enough is enough and stop paying the ridonkulous ticket prices and stop going to matches
or
B, say fuck off Mr Murdoch and stop paying £50 or £60 a month to include the sports channels in their TV package (a price that goes through the roof if you're a pub or other kind of business)

TV's (especially Sky's) grip on sport in this country has pissed me off for a number of years now and I just can't see it changing for the better any time soon!
