The first round of Championship matches started today,& it was good to see Jimmy Anderson bowling again taking 5-54 against a strong Notts line-up.He dismissed England's T20 star Hales for 61,who batted at six after being dropped from the side as an opener last year with poor form in 4 day cricket.

Eoin Morgan, hoping for early season runs to put himself in the frame for a re-call to the Test side had a bad day as he was out bowled first ball by Jon Lewis making his Sussex debut.
Matt Prior, dropped for the last 2 Ashes Test made 32 not out with 7 boundaries,
It looks like a long road back for Steven Finn, his 4 overs cost 20 runs & he doesn't even get the new ball for Middlesex these days.

Its all very well English players playing and doing reasonably well in County Championship but the standard is akin to Celtic playing in Scottish Premier League and then playing in the European Champions League. The minute they have to play another Country they are struggling. Test matches, Twenty 20 et al.Sorry just realised English players...Eoin Morgan. Jonathan Trott???
irry
Early season conditions do tend to favour the bowlers and so it generally proved today.
Tosses won and teams electing to bowl.
No surprise. The pitches tend to do a bit first up.

So why does the Man Of The Match in today World T20 Final feel the need to come & play for Durham before Sri Lanka play England.

Generally England Qualified players perform well in our country, in our condition ,but struggle with wickets abroad that offer pace & bonce or excessive spin.

Asian batsmen find the swinging ball a challenge especially in early season conditions.

The way england fucked with Finn makes me spit annoyed There is a guy with all the attributes and we over coach and kill the confidence of him.... dropping him when he was ranked 3 in the world in odi cricket, followed by one ashes test and out u go.

I only hope he can clear his mind and just run in fast!! When will we learn to nurture these big quicks?

England is a great place to live dont get me wrong but England have been found out and all the other test playing countries and Netherlands love playing and beating England. They have got to get the hunger back and start beating other teams consistantly. Sri Lanka this summer will be a good barometer for England's current playing standard as at home they should do well, but if they do not........
Good point about Netherlands, their captain admitted that England's players held no fear to them as the ECB had kindly invited them to play in our 40 over ODI competition for the last 4 years.
What are these MCCU matches that are being played this week?
The 2014 season is the earliest start of any county championship campaign in the history of county cricket. The reason is simple; there is an awful lot a competitions to fit in to the schedule. Also, combined with the increase in T20 games makes an early start unavoidable. The downside is that many of these early matches will be affected by bad weather. bladewave
