Excellent, hugely informative and inspiring commentary on how World War One impacted the nation.
I am not a regular watcher of war based programming but I was gripped by the start of this four part series.
Will be sure to watch again next week.
I have an interest in war programmes - wether it be fact or fiction. It's kind of one of my favourite areas in tv, books and film. I'm always taken in by the emotional side. You never always know what you're going to get with Jeremy Paxman but this was really good. I'm already looking forward to next week and its a welcome change because Monday nights television are often really poor. Hopefully there's a BBC dvd of this too when it finishes, and if so I'll almost certainly be buying it.
Good BBC2 documentary this week "Royal Cousins at War" - 2nd part on now.

Quite scary just how incestuous all this European monarchy rivalry was at that time : basically WW1 seems to have been caused by one bad case of Royal family imperial rivalry / one-upmanship.
(And they were all basically descended from Queen Victoria /married to Queen Victoria's children!).
to think if they had put that new law that the first girl would have become queen in the 1800s then there would have been no war because the kaiser would have been king of england
It's a great series and I'm really enjoying it, but for the best series on WW1 check out the BBC's 26 part series 'The Great War' from 1964,which will be repeated later this year
" 37 Days" that was on Thursday , Friday , Saturday BBC 2 was good :

3 part docu-drama showing the British Foreign Office/Cabinet and the German Kaiser's Chancellory/Army plunging into war through brinkmanship, miscalculation and misunderstanding.

Some good actors Bill Paterson, Tim Piggott Smith etc.

(And Ian McDairmid - no wonder war broke out with Senator Palpatine as Britain's Foreign Secretary)
