Think this is just another variation of the Grampian Police Notice. Didn't 2 guys and a female get locked up for that extortion attempt. Had your one yesterday while using search on here. McCaffee shut my computer down and restart, and was fine.

To answer the OP's original question, no, it hasn't been "hacked" as such as they haven't stolen any personal details, it is a phishing exercise to try and get information.
Another one to watch for is "your computer is at risk, we have discovered threats" and an extremely professional looking page comes up listing the dodgy programmes found and offering you some subscription-based anti-virus/hack software to get rid of them.....
...which of course, is a malware itself so if you sign up for it not only do they have your £29.95 or whatever it is (for which you get absolutely nothing) they then have your bank/credit card details!
Similarly, the "updated video players" that are "recommended" or "essential", especially if watching football streams or similar should all be avoided like the plague.
As already mentioned, Malwarebytes is excellent.

I know someone who paid the fine. Basically panicked knowing his kids had been online and thought they must have done something illegal.

My sister got it yesterday from a site called 'Network One' or something like that, with recordings of tv shows on it. I just forced the browser shut with task manager and that was it solved.
(It was from Glasgow police this time)
