Moyes has already hinted he might not buy (translated that reads as the Chief Exec says there is no money in the pot). If we do, it will probably be another attacking mid as we only have about 20 of them, not like we need a defensive minded mid and a CB or two bladewave

That was the point I was making. We need a defensive minded but creative mid.
if spurs can get £6m for defoe they should take itImportantBig Grin
Paris Saint-Germain are after Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye.
But only if their coach Laurent Blanc manages to sell some of his existing team. The cost will be in excess of the £22million bid by Arsenal during the summer for the 27-year-old.

Man Utd actually have plenty of cash available should they wish to spend it. Plenty of money in the pot. The reason Moyes is downplaying expectations is that Man Utd made a big mistake in the summer by saying they would sign world class players and then bringing in Fellaini. How embarrassing. This time they will sensibly downplay expectations rather than encourage speculation about possible signings, so if it all falls flat again they won't be left looking silly.

I know United have the cash to spend. The point I was implying was the new Chief exec, Woodward has a reputation for being tight arsed, so the risk is top players will go elsewhere on better deals. It's not a question of not looking silly in January but buying in the player or two that we really need.
Talk says that Moyes is after Juan Mata from Chelsea

Best rumours are regarding Arsenal. Names being linked are Wayne Rooney & Dimitar Berbatov. But at the top of the Gunners list is Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata who they are trying to sign on loan

There's a lot of talk about United buying various players but then again there was in the summer. I believe Chelsea do not wish to sell Mata to another premiership club. We have also been linked with Vidal who I would love to see arrive. Will be interesting to see who is available and suitable.
maybe its just me but the number of goals u concede from down the rite side or ur left side, evra seems to spend too much time playing as a left winger and never seems to get a rest. i can understand why moyes went after baines, cos i think evra now is man utds weak link. and its amazing how many people on here and pundits always mention the midfield yet the last manager and this 1 hav yet dun anything about it. where is that midfielder who can get in to double figures of league goals a season and assists as well? i wonder how many goals carrick, cleverley, and anderson hav scored over the last few seasons, bet its not that many.

It's very true. We have never replaced Scholes. The fact he came back from retirement spoke volumes. However, a defensive minded midfielder who is creative is a must. The defence is capable but looks weak because the midfield just can't help them out enough in soaking some of the pressure up. The fact is United need to bolster the squad in a couple of key areas.
