We need another petition.
Firstly, this isn't legislation, so even if passed, would not be legally binding.

Secondly, it calls in hopelessly vague and over-generalised terms for "a ban on all forms of pornography in the media" (see the links below for a better explanation).
The suggestion is that this will be amended to target the use of pornography in advertising (rather than the advertising of porn).

Fuss about nothing if you ask me. Yes we should be opposed as it is an uneccessary intrusion to peoples liberties (not to mention the impact it would have economically), but the likelihood of this turning into something meaningful and workable is slim in my opinion.

EDIT : A couple of better reports on what the proposal actually says and the background etc :

I can't imagine the French, or the Italians, or the Scandinavians, for starters, possibly endorsing any such proposal.
Look up Liberal Fascism...a minority bunch telling you they are banning something becuase it is good for your soul. What next? Bread? Beer? Farting?
Its a proposal by the Womens Committee so it stands about as much chance of being passed as a French ban on horsemeat.

So by that virtue all the Ofcom bashers need to smell the coffee that there are also money and jobs being generated by its existance, so cant see it being shut down for that reason as well

I think a petition is needed
Well it seems that you can't email your MEP on this subject as anything arriving at the European Parliament on this issue is blocked as spam. According to today's newspapers, if you email your MEP to voice your opposition to the proposed measure it will be blocked as spam before your MEP gets a chance to read it.

Some of the comments in response to that article defy belief, this one for instance :

"Porn is bad for everyone - men, women, boys, girls and society generally. It causes impotence, emasculates men and degrades women. Turn it off and go get a life instead".

It causes impotence??????? Really???? I suspect that comment was made by a member of the wimmins brigade who hasn't bothered to shave her legs or armpits for 20 years, is at least five stone overweight with an overhanging gut the size of Staffordshire, regularly farts in bed, and who's idea of looking good in the bedroom is wearing a granny style nightie with grey cotton pants that should have been binned years ago, and is pissed off because her long suffering other half gets his rocks off enjoying a bit of porn, having found that he can't get it up for his lazy arsed missus, who's one line of seduction is probably "Are you coming to bed for a bit...this beard won't scratch itself!"

RANT OVER!

Has democracy been abolished in Europe then?

No it's just another form of censorship.
