If it's a temporary measure as stated they won't need to will they?

Is it a temporary measure? In the op's post it says that STD66 will be implementing an "automated" age verification system in the next few days.
How do automated Age verification systems work? Do they not require more personal information other than a credit/debit card number and date of birth?
This sounds like the new system on Shebang.tv aswell altough they also had the option to prove your age using the age verification system on your phone which is the method I chose. No way would I send them a copy of my passport etc.

You have to phone your mobile company to verify your age so that you can access over 18 content then enter you number and they send you a code

That's easy then, especially for those who have age verified phones already.

The UK regulators do not recognize age verified phones to be sufficient in providing proof of age, as they stated when finding STD 66 in breach for sending hard core images to peoples mobile phones, STD 66 argued that the images could only be viewed by people over the age of 18 due to the phones being adult varified, Ofcom didn't agree, check this post by munch1917 concerning this adult phone verification method being used by STD 66 and Ofcom not recognizing this method as proof of age ...

It is my understanding that all new phones supplied today are supposed to be locked from accessing adult content until you provide age verification, either in the form of credit card details, or by visiting your network providers store and convincing them you are an adult. That system seems to be fine for everyone else, but apparently not Ofcom because apparently a 'person under the age of eighteen' may use 'an adult's mobile phone

STD 66 need to be careful if they are still using this age verified mobile phone method to check peoples age, Ofcom has put STD 66 on notice that any further breaches of a similar nature could result in statutory sanctions .
