The man who fought for the right to legally die has passed away today.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-19341722

He starved himself once he lost his High Court case to allow doctors to end his life.

His twitter page read this as the final tweet...

Quote:before he died, he asked us to tweet: 'Goodbye world the time has come, I had some fun'

At least you're out of pain now. R.I.P Tony.
I don't wish this to sound harsh, as this was a tragic case and I have great sympathy with Tony Nicklinson's plight, but I was glad that the judges refused his request.

In a democracy it is not the job of unelected judges to change, reinterpret or overrule laws made by the democratically elected government. History has shown time and time again that we ignore that principle at our peril and we can't look the other way when it suits us or when a particularly emotive case like this comes along.

If you want to have the right to die, it is for parliament to change the law.

Having said all that, I can't even begin to imagine what that poor man went through or how I would even begin to cope in such a sitation. At least he had the love of his family around him and I can only hope that their support gave him some comfort in his final days.

RIP
R.I.P Tony
