Doctor Who actress Mary Tamm died on Friday after a long battle against cancer, aged 62.

She appeared in the 16th series, in 1978-79, in the character of Romana, a Time Lady who helped the Doctor (Tom Baker) in his quest to find “The Key to Time”

She also appeared in Brookside in the mid 90's as Penny Crosbie and a brief spell in Eastenders in 2009

Mary's husband Marcus Ringrose collapsed and died of a suspected heart attack hours after Mary's funeral on Tuesday. Marcus was sitting at his computer replying to friends when he collapsed. Makes you think. Together again, R.I.P.

One partner dying soon after the other is a documented phenomenon among longtime couples.

Studies around the world have shown that the rate of mortality spikes among bereaved spouses soon after their beloved has died. One study published a few years ago by researchers at the University of Glasgow followed more than 4,000 couples and found that, on average, widows and widowers were at least 30 percent more likely to die of any cause in the first six months following a spouse’s death than those who hadn’t lost a partner. Another large study in Jerusalem found the bereaved spouse's risk of death during those first six months rose by up to 50 percent.

My great grandma died in april 1952, my great grandad asked, 'have you tolled the bell'? Few days later he died and they where buried on the same day. It happens, though there where in their 80's and had been together since she was 18 and he 21, perfect married.
