m8 your desktop pic has very little impact on performance unless you have a realy meager pc. what realy speeds up yer computer is better hardware.
i have a meager

athlon x2 4600 amd
8800gt
2gigs ram
160 hdd
500 hdd
it dosent suffer any slowdown because of a backround...
maybe you should considder upgrading,.

100 quid tops for a 775 motherboard low end core 2 and a gig of ram maybe an extra 50 for a small gfx card and then you wont have to worry about resorces, seriously m8 if a backround pic is impacting you that much it is time to upgrade.

Your hardware is much better than mine.
This is a 1.8GHz Duron with 768MB ram, 40GB hdd and FX5200 graphics card.
I built it myself a few years ago. It is not the fastest computer that I have built but it is extremely reliable running linux and I use it for all my internet surfing etc. It is fast enough for me. I keep thinking about upgrading one of my other computers but haven't got round to it yet.
Used this one for about a year

I now use this one.All my own work, the photography not the surfing! Big Grin

good eye you have there...
Tuneup utilities is good but did you know you can also change the start up & welcome screen.

yeah tune up lets you do that 2 but, i have heard of instances where meta data has been tamperd with and created backdoors on the login screen so i dont adjust them
As far as I'm aware it just uses the picture, the meta data part of it isn't used making it safe.
This program can be used on a picture file to create your own welcome screen. Then import that file using Tuneup Utilities.
Thought it might be useful.

I generally stick with generic Windows background, but for a change:

La Keelings - pretty pretty, a spooky thing (looks good if 'tiled') or a cute doggy.
