OK so now we've seen the new Sky Sports channel. It's made its 'full debut' this weekend and I wondered what everyone thought of it so far. How do you think it compares to the BBC for example?
I feel rather underwhelmed by the new channel. Very average. The BBC will always be the best in my opinion. The Sky channel needs to get some better theme music for a start.
It's never the same without Murray Walker and The Chain.
I really like the opening sequence and think the archive footage is great. Seeing names from the past, building up to today's drivers is very good in my opinion. But I think it's a bit cheeky because they copied the idea from Match Of The Day. The theme music's not great, as it's too mellow for the sport I think, but whatever music they chose it wouldn't have been as good as the chain.
The repeat show started at 9:30am and it's now nearly 11am and the race still hasn't begun...

For f.... sake, get on with it Sky.
Why are we worried about the theme music? Surely that's a minor detail. Overall I thought that the first weekend coverage was very good and I think Sky have got a recipe for success with this channel. It's been an encouraging start. Let's give Sky credit too for not going the ITV way and interrupting the race with commercial breaks. We must give them big credit for that. I'm sure the in depth analysis Sky are providing will prove to be a winner, although I'm not convinced yet by Damon Hill as a pundit. I don't know what other people think?

That's because of the indepth coverage that cosmonaut was talking about. Aren't you happy with it?
the coverage of the race was..well...the coverage of the race, Martin Brundle gave it the feeling of familarity.
I think to be honest they seemed a bit amateur for the after race segment (i.e the old BBC red button bit where they walk around the pits and grab interviews etc). I dont see any point in the bits with anthony davidson and georgie thompson who seemed a bit uneasy in their surroundings and didnt really seem to have any direction what to do just pointing at a screen and talking the viewer through the basics of what they can see anyway, that whole thing didnt work for me. I also agree about Damon not really being pundit material, maybe they should swap him and Ant Davidson who was always excellent on radio5live
Having watched F1 for 20 years+ though I have enjoyed throughout the week when they have shown highlights of 1988->1991 seasons and the car launches which are things we never saw previously.
I think the show will get better but so far I think I slightly prefer the BBC
Sky are going to do a good job, because they do a good job of every sport they cover. It's been a good start and I think they will get better as they go along. Plus as a bonus I no longer have to watch Jake Humphrey, David Coulthard, Eddie Jordan and Eddie Jordan's shirts. I think Sky took the best from the BBC and left the rest.
To me it's just like listening to Radio5live but with pictures. I thought the team for the first show did a really good job, but have to agree the verdict is still out on Damon, unfortunately.

If DC was in his place, then Sky would definitely be the dominant channel, but credit to him for remaining with the BBC and showing some loyalty. And that's the problem I'm having with Brundle, as good as he is as a broadcaster, technically and on the grid, I do have an issue with him jumping from channel to channel.
