Welcome to the forum and I too use WinTV but I do not have any problems at all.
How are you connected to your sky ? - I use a gold OFC heavy duty cable (composite) for the piccie and a gold 2 phono to RCA 3.5mm for the sound. One thing I did notice is that you can record at 2 different settings - one is at 45meg a minute and the other is 19meg a minute. I used the 45meg one and that comes out fine. I then use WinAVI convertor to change resolution and size to make it better for the others to download (files a lot smaller)

Hope this help but if you have any more probs then either reply here or feel free to PM me.

Cheers

SC
Thanks for the warm welcomes. i have wintv2000 and i think it has 2 quality settings mpeg1 2mbit and mpeg1 vcd any idea which is the best? i dont think its the leads because i get a good picture when not recording. thanks for the help
TBH I used to record via PC years ago. Gave that up as despite having the equipment to do it a far simpler solution was to use a PVR. Long since scavenged the HDD out the PVR for extra PC storage as the damn thing broke and wouldn't even enter service mode. Ironically just ordered a cheap PVR tonight as I suspect I might be getting asked to record again soon Rolleyes

What I really need though is an extra 24 hours in a day. Never enough time Sad
I might add my problem onto this thread as its the same sort of area.

I can record onto dvd-rw. However when I put the disc into my laptop, i can't get it to play. The laptop registers that the disc is full but it just wont play. Even if i click autoplay, nothing happens.
Is the disc finalised? Some machines won't play an un-finalised disc that wasn't recorded on that machine. Not sure why, my tech expertise doesn't extend that far, but it's often the case. Don't know if your DVD recorder has an option for finalisng discs...

All modern laptop dvd drives should play DVD +RW and -RW discs. Have you tried +RW type? Have you got dvd playback software on your laptop? eg WinDVD or Nero showtime or VLC player. I dont think dvds will play in windows media player without the right codec installed. DVD +R and DVD -R type wont play until finalised.
My laptop can definately play DVD-RWs and I have vlc media player so I dont know what else i can do. I don't understand what finalising means either.
