Who the hell pays for UK soft porn and then changes channel - unless you're loaded, £5 needs to be spent wisely and more importantly made best use of.

on most freeview boxes you are free to channel hop and return to the unlocked channel, and judging by the amount of people we have who returns to the channel to find they are locked out and require a new code, i'd say quite a lot of people channel hop throughout the night

by looking at the repeat buys per user, and the number of people we have who navigate away from the channel and ring customer service as they're box is showing a new unlock code after channel hopping.

Hardly an indicator, then, given that your presenters repeatedly tell viewers they can flick back forth between Xtreme and your other channels and encourage them to do exactly that. Anyone who does so can't be regarded as a casual viewer.

And how can repeat buys tell you anything? I thought viewers had to pay only once per night, which would tell you absolutely nothing.

I find it difficult to believe that the majority of your customers are repeatedly having to call customer services all night as they flick between your channels and yet still come back for more. I would also expect a flood of complaining posts on this forum if that was happening.

So I have to repeat: how can you possibly know that?
poll is prejudged as there is no option for the osg are fine as they are ?
I would like to propose something that I don't think has been suggested so far. Obviously the number has to be displayed, as the point of the show is to call in and talk with the presenter. So why not place the number in a *corner* of the screen (e.g. top right) rather than an *edge*. Then it can be a reasonable size, and will be very visible, but won't interfere with the screen image subject. This seems like such an obvious compromise that I think I must be missing something! Please everyone give your comments.
davyboysmith - option 6 is for that. And you'll note from responses to the poll so far, that it seems it's not that a big a deal for many. I've already apologised for the perception that this is negative, and indeed if I could change the poll I would so that it was down to just 3 options
1] Fine as is
2] Move to a top corner
3] Move to a bottom corner

JulianC - top left or right is my preference as well as less likely to "interfere". They'll need to consider the set "safe" areas of a TV picture so it won't be right in top left/right of screen as some people won't see it fully. But top would be better than present location (in my humble opinion).
Babestation, can you confirm that the size of the number matters? I believe you stated elsewhere that the bigger the number the more callers you got. As you know the exact size of the audience of this channel, does that 'rule' still hold true? I think there must be a point of diminishing returns...

Clearly, if people are complaining then there's an issue with the size/placement/appearance of the number. You said earlier on this thread that the number was transparent - it isn't, the dark background is slightly transparent but the digits are totally opaque. Can you remove the black background and make the number (i.e. the digits) transparent - i.e. make the whole thing less obtrusive?

It is a fairly well-known and published fact that a changing image attracts our attention more than a static one. It follows then that making the number appear and disappear would attract more people's attention to it. So, let's say you repeatedly make the number appear for about 15 seconds and then disappear for 2 minutes. Because the number 'suddenly' appears it attracts more attention and, because it disappears for the majority of the time, those who don't want to see the bloody thing are less upset by its fleeting presence. Couple that with more transparency and I think you might satisfy everyone at least some of the time.
I've put don't care because I only have Sky and only have internet access on my phone, so I can't watch.
After looking at the Caps, I have to say just be grateful the OSG isn't as bad as their main channels, plus they have to put the phone number somewhere so people know.
Thanks guys,

Good to see that you'll never stop complaining. Also thanks to IanG for bringing up that moving images attract your attention more. I think I might have to add in a few grow shrink effects, lens flares and fireworks to the graphic Big Grin
OSGs got a refresh last night to have the additional number for Orange to call. Same layout and colour/font, so doesn't add any distraction.
Does look like they're tried to minimise that a bit as the new box encroaches onto the main one by a few %

To me I'd say they've reduced the size of the main phone number a bit to accomodate this, and so overall this doesn't necessarily mean we've "lost" more of the picture. If people are generally happy (as they seem to be based on poll response), then this doesn't add anything to alter that opinion.

Thanks for putting up a lovely example of a tidy clean bumhole
