With the annual lovefest upon us I thought I'd start a thread to share those magnificent triumphs and cringe-worthy disasters that are strewn along the path of life and love.

My greatest Valentine's Day disaster was when I sent a card to a girl......and three days later she emigrated to America!! I kid you not, she was a nurse who drank in my local and I used to see her cycle past my flat every morning on her way to work.

We got chatting in the bar one night, Valentine's Day was coming up, I knew where she lived (no, I wasn't following her, I just happened to see her going into her house one day) so sent her a card.

The following weekend I saw her housemates in the pub without her and casually enquired (as you do) where she was. "Oh, didn't you know? She's gone to work in Boston for three years, we saw her off at the airport yesterday..."

What a waste of a stamp....

But that's nothing compared to the disappointment a good female (platonic) friend of mine suffered on Valentine's Day last year. Always unlucky in love, she was delighted when the postman delivered what seemed to be a card....

Well, yes, it was a card....it was from the local clinic reminding her that she had an appointment for a cervical smear test coming up!!!!!! eekeek

Can anybody beat that?

ps does CW send a card to his wrist?

You'd be surprised at what you can do with an envelope. Important Wink

I did consider sending Gracie a card, maybe with a tenner inside ("Get yourself some flowers luv") .... but I forgot.
Too late now. Sad

So much for being a Fanboy. Rolleyes

Don't worry Jam, it's the thoughless that counts...Wink!

Mine was two years when I sent the woman I was desperately in love with a card on Valentine's Day, posting it personally in the morning on the way to work.

Anyway, she seemingly played the cool oblivious customer for a few days, and then it suddenly hit me when in conversation with her at work over lunch, she revealed to me that she actually lived at the same number house but in the street behind where I'd posted her cardRolleyesBlush

I still wonder what the woman who received my card looks like...Wink
