I have downgraded my PC (temporarily) to an XP unit.
I no longer have the use of Windows DVD maker, to transfer movies that I download from videobox.com and burn to a DVD to watch in a DVD player.

Can anyone recommend a free (legal) equivalent to Windows DVD maker?
Even one with a trial period (providing there is no red triangles or "trial banner" obstructing the picture) would be ok as I will be getting a new PC at the end of Feb.

Thanks for any help.
ConvertXtoDvd is a good one. It will convert any movie file into Vobs, complete with menu's and everything set-up ready to burn.

Or even WinAviVideoConverter will do a similar job, but with less options.

Thanks. Just had a look and see that the trial version has a watermark. Any idea how big it is/where it is located on screen?
windows movie maker is free for xp http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downl...aker2.mspx min req xp sp2.
but
you will need xp sp3 for this http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nbl-free.php... a free version of nero burn.
or have a look round the nero site for some of the full suites they have 30 day trials. in most if not all cases.

Sp? I assume that means service pack?

Just to clarify, I have WMV files that I want to burn onto DVD.

So far I have downloaded Cheetah DVD Burner (was unable to find the DVD drive), Cheetah DVD Maker (was unable to find the DVD drive), and BurnAware Free which says "there is no disk in the drive please insert a DVD+R/RW disk to continue".. I am using a "-R" disk (bought a spindle of 100 today) So I'm not sure if "+R/RW" will solve the problem.
