Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been connecting to the internet, personal use, for the last 18 months using 3 mobile broadband. Happy as Larry. Today however I keep getting a 'Server not available' or 'The connection to the server was reset, Try Again' message.

I've tried looking on all the appropriate forums, when allowed due to connection problems, but no answers.

Nothing with my configuration has changed, Windows XP, Firefox 3.6.13 with AdBlock Plus. The same problem occurs if I use Explorer or Chrome. If I constantly keep trying the 'Try Again' button the web page I'm after will reload, between 30 seconds and 2 minutes. It's a pain in the arse.

It's probably a 3 problem although signal strength is showing at max all the time.

If anyone has seen this problem before any advice would be welcomed although I suspect it is probably a 3 network or local mast problem which will allow me to indulge in my second favourite hobby of shouting at faceless corporations in the morning.

Cheers in anticipation.

That Vimes eh, what a tw@t. All about me, me, me. It seems to be working fine now.

Probably a 3 problem. Oh well have to go back to my number one hobby of crochet. eek
I've been with 3 for almost if not the same length of time & a few months back i updated my Avira AntiVar Personal - Free Antivirus as i normally would every day or 2 with no problems & then one day after an update of about 23 files it decided to conflict with my 3 mobile broadband & i couldn't get a connection so after a 45min phone call to India/Pakistan or wherever the call centre is i had to use the 1.3G option to get on the net & almost every time i was connected i would get the Internet Explorer Cannot Display The Webpage at least twice if not more & i had to disconnect then reconnect evey 5min so decided to switch to AVG Free Antivirus which was much better & at Christmas i reset my laptop & since then i've had no problems other than the last few days but insted of the Internet Explorer Cannot etc etc it just says No Problem Was Found & loads the page within seconds but for some reason i wasn't able to download the AVG Free Antivirus???

AVG probably hates you as much as I do. Big Grin

Thanks for your input.

Last couple of hours it hasn't been so bad. Occassional 'The connection to the server was reset' message but nothing like this afternoon.

Ho hum. See what tomorrow brings.

Sorry Captain, I only just saw this thread. I'm on 3 Mobile Broadband too.
I posted some of my problems here

Don't bother with the Mumbai call centre - they can't/won't help. Have you checked your speed? If you goto Speedtest and click "begin test", you can see what your speed is. The "download" speed is also your surfing speed.
If it's very low (like mine usually is) that can cause web pages not to load.
Mine has been especially slow the past couple of weeks. Here's my current speed from just now -

Slow, as usual.
I don't know of a solution though. Maybe when the "4G" network is available, things will improve.
My dongle is supposedly a 7.2mb/ps dongle, so I should be able to reasonably expect at least 1mb/ps speed all of the time. Not the shit I keep getting.

I downloaded AVG too, and uninstalled it when the guy on the phone told me to, but that made no improvement so I put it back on.
better off going broadband, its cheaper, faster and virtually unlimited.
if you go with the likes of virgin media you can have both, hardwired and a mobile BB for a lot less than 3 is offering for its mobi service.
if your not in a cable area then they will suply your BB down a standard phone line.
atm i pay £15pmm for a 10Mb connection and i get 10Mb(cable).

as for you jam. get rid of avg, avira is the best free av, pair it with other antimalware apps like spybot S&D and ad-aware or emsisoft antimalware.

I've been using AVG from soon after I first went on the internet in 1999 and never had any problems.
I've just kicked the Norton trial off the Windows 7 laptop I got at Xmas and replaced it with AVG.
Mind you, I now use linux most of the time (on my main computer), where I don't have to worry about such stuff.

Great advice but sadly for myself and Jamie we live in an area where we have a choice of one isp and that is over priced, slow and shaped to hell at peak times

Yes, I've never tried Karoo (Hull's finest), but everyone who has got it says what a bag of shit it is.
As much as I detest 3, I don't want to buy another dongle from another network, only to find the same problem(s).

....Technology, eh? Rolleyes

even with linux your not immune m8, linux is like mac.os (really it is lol there both based on unix) there are a few viruses out there that can still infect linux and os'x you can install avira, alongside avg but turn off the antivirus realtime scanning in avg

that way you can still use the active malware scanner. but plz dont be fooled, avg is no better than norton, the reason being, because so many people use it, the virus makers deliberately target its weaknesses.
