i just finished watching the season 8 box set i bought a few days ago and i am not sure if i missed something or not. When Kalel fights doomsday he takes him to the power plant, there is an explosion and then it moves to the next scene. Is what happened explained in season 9?

Kind of, bascially it sets up Doomsday in how it was done in the comic's with Doomsday been buried under ground and escaping and killing superman of course you won't see that in smallville maybe in a future film. But the final scene of season 8 does set up season 9 tho .

i wish that fight between doomsday and kal'el lasted longer i could have been amaing
