What a great achievement by Steve McClaren in winning the Dutch Championship with small town club FC Twente! Whatever people think of his time with England, hopefully they won't be mean spirited enough not to recognise McClaren for his achievement today. In 22 of the last 26 seasons the Dutch champions have been either Ajax or PSV, but this season those two giants of Dutch football had to settle for 2nd and 3rd. With this success McClaren becomes the first English manager since Bobby Robson (at Porto in 1996) to win a European league title.
Congratulations to McLaren, he certainly has moved on from his difficult time with the England team. He was villified for not qualifying for the European Championships (rightly so) but he has replied and come back in the best way Smile

It's true. He didn't use a brolly yesterday even though it was raining during the match. Big Laugh Anyway, well done to him, it's not often an English manager wins a major trophy these days.
Don`t wanna say this but yeah yeah well done big mac, knowing what he`s like he`ll now take the West Ham job an undo the rep he`s just built up.

Somebody needs to tell Shteeve that the Dutch speak good English and will undershtand him if he shpeaks normal, his post match interview on Shky Shports was pure comedyBounceBounce he sounded like Ruud Gullit.
The guy's always been a fine coach, just not the right man for England at the time. Congratulations to him.

McClaren`s England reign..... I think your avatar say`s it all.Bounce
McMuppet strikes back! Bounce

To be fair to Steve McClaren, he's done a great job in Holland. The England job was a disaster, but unlike Kevin Keegan after his England failure, McClaren didn't let it ruin him... It's like winning the Premiership with a mid table team, so you gotta respect that.
After the amazing job he did at Twente, McClaren has moved on to Wolfsburg and good luck to him. Interestingly, he did a fantastic job at 'Boro (Yes he did, look where he took them and at what happened once he left) and Twente, both sides short of star players, but didn't do as well as was hoped in the England job (although that qualifying group was never going to be the cakewalk people assumed it would. Russia and Croatia are very good sides). Maybe the bloke's just not cut out for dealing with the massive egos of the superstar players? Not every manager is. Building a career for yourself as the tactical coach and top notch trainer who gets the best out of mediocre sides is no poor place to be.
Absolutely, it's mainly down to the arrogance and ignorant nature of the British media. U only have to look at the way they've treated 'Woy Hogdson. The guy has succeeded nearly everywhere. But the british media seem oblivious to this and finally think he's a success just because he's taken an English team to the final of the Europa League.
O and here's a bit of irony for you. If i'm not mistaken, Steve McClaren is now the highest paid English manager after taking the Wolfsburg job.
