Last night I had this problem again.

I know I flicked my tv onto Ch 94 several times during the night and watched without a problem, so I don't have any reception difficulties. My dvd recorder's display indicated that it was recording to its hdd and when I switched it on today the channel display showed '94', showing that to have been the last channel it was tuned to. When I play back the recording all I get is 5 hours of black screen with a banner across the bottom saying 'Ch 94 - No Service'.

Any ideas?
I had something similar when party girls used to be on so I set the recording time for two minutes after the programme start time and it's never happened again. Can't say I understand why it would make a difference or if it's just coincidence but to be on the safe side I've stuck with it.
Was your problem every night or only occasional? I don't touch my recording times from one night to the next, so I don't quite see why it should be ok most of the time and only fail once or twice.
just the once for me - i thought it was something to do with my dvd recorder setting off before the freeview box and not picking up the signal which was why i changed the recording time to later.
I use recorders with built-in Freeview tuners and always set them to start recording at the time transmission begins. I've been doing this since last June without any problems until now. The offending machine has been in use since August.
Some of the channels have only been accessible by way of PIN for the past few nights and mornings. Perhaps there will be more encrypted content in future, but I really don't know. This has been apparent on satellite, so don't dump your recorder just yet. Perhaps test it for a daytime show and see what happens.
On 2 of my old freeview PVRs, the start time has to be set until after the babes programs have actually started (EPG + 2 minutes) or they fail to record anything, no problem with "normal" programs. Its been like this for over a year.
My newer Sony PVR has no problems.
