hi folks, i wonder if yous guys can help me. my broadband is with sky and up until now i have never had any bother with it.
Is there any folk on this forum who's broadband is with sky as well and are having trouble getting onto certain websites :
rapidshare , imagebam and megaload to name a few.
i was told by a guy from sky broadband that they were having bother with these certain websites for some reason and because of this, these websites are blocking batches of sky's i.p. addresses and making it impossible for the users to get on there websites.
this is a nightmare as i have pics and vids to upload and download.
is anybody else having the same hassle.

Me too. I can't get rapidshare. I know rapidshare was up grading to I thought it would come right. Nothing for days. I can access the site and log in but when I try and download all I get is files online not available - and i know there are.

I'm also Sky
Yeah I've got Sky Broadband and I've had the same problems for the last couple of days. I hope Sky sort it out soon...
mines been rumbling 2 or 3 weeks, at first I couldn't download in the day, just after midnight, now nothing. I have a premium account and i am paying for this, but I can't even contact them.
I am the same as you soop soop , I have a preimum account for rapidshare and I can't even get in touch with them. I am going to try and get somebody who can get on the site to give me an address to email. I sent sky 2 emails yesterday complaining and I got a reply saying they were really busy and they would get back to me shortly. If you guys complain as well , the more folk doing it might make they do something about it. Thanks for the replies guys.

Are you sure Sky have actually blocked those sites? I know that sometimes an ISP can have issues resolving specific domain names (website urls) - this is usually due to problems with their DNS Servers.

To quote a post I made elsewhere in this section...

skateguy Wrote:If you can't even load any Rapidshare pages at all then it may be an issue with your ISPs DNS Servers. You could try using Open DNS instead.

I wouldn't advise that you muck around with your internet settings too much if you're not sure how to change your DNS details, but here's a couple of guides:

http://www.comptalks.com/how-open-dns-and-google-dns/
http://www.techgroom.com/2010/01/16/setu...-computer/

The Open DNS site used to have a guide on how to set it up, but I can't see one now. You probably have to sign up now to access it (which is free).
The difficulty with that, skateguy, why would these DNS settings go wobbly all of a sudden? I was downloading fine a couple of weeks ago. I haven touched anything.
I don't know why, but it happens. Maybe due to changes/upgrades they may have made to their DNS Servers or changes that companies they outsource to make (an ISP relies on a number of external organisations).
Well, I've just followed the instructions on your links. I'm still here. So I will now try rapidshare

Well, it speeded up the internet. It's suppose to be safer. But has no affect on the rapidshare.

Thanks any way.

It appears to stem from issues with an external source (IWF) who handle the filtering of websites for Sky (or Easynet to be precise, who actually run the servers etc for Sky). The filtering blocks out known 'bad' sites but some of the file-hosting sites seem to have got included. The block did temporarily drop off a couple of days back but is on again as I type. Hopefully it is just a temporary thing until IWF get their act sorted out. Take a look here for further discussion -

Sky File Hosting Issues

Hopefully it is just a temporary thing until IWF get their act sorted out.

There are a couple of workarounds.

If a Rapidshare link doesn't work then go to the address bar in your browser and add an 's' after http e.g. it should now read now read https://www.rapidshare.com/........

On Megaupload, try changing 'www' to 'ssl'. Worked for me.

For any others that appear to be blocked, try either of the above.
