Just upgraded from sky+ to SkyHD and am loving it, the programmes look a lot better the standard versions, but some programmes/films look better then other i guess this is due to recent the programmes/films are. One question i would like to know and maybe some maybe able to answer it is that i have hearing that skyhd isn't true HD even if your HD tv is 1080p which is how my one is. Would love to know if this actually true.
I am no expert but in my understanding Sky HD broadcast in 1080i and true HD is 1080p.

In reality i don't think it makes an awful lot of diffrence. I think alot of US channels only broadcast in 720p so Sky seems to be doing pretty well....
Hi,

I reckon i can help you out with this one......If you've just bought your Hi Def tv, or it's of decent quality, im guessing that it's capable of 100hertz vision. (most new tv's are 100hertz, or even if it's a couple of years old a good quality make like Sony, Samsung etc will probably be 100hertz)

Sky are currently transmitting their Hi Def service at only 50hertz, so although it's still Hi Def, it isn't using up your tv's full Hi Def capability. 50 hertz is still very good, but i've seen a 100hertz transmission on a Hi Def tv in the states, and it's mind boggling. The picture is even sharper than the one that we are currently looking at, and fast moving objects like people playing any kind of sport, etc, are that much clearer.

The human eye wouldn't recognise anything over 100hertz anyway, so it's the ultimate at present. Doesn't mean that Sky's Hi Def is crap mind you, it's still of a very, very good quality, but as far as i'm aware there's no plans for them to upgrade to 100hertz at present.

Anyway, enjoy!!
Sorry for opening up an old(ish) thread, but I just got this installed today and I'm very impressed. The Olympics on Eurosport being a definite highlight so far.

As far as I know showing in 1080i and not p has something to do with bandwidth and is therefore more cost effective for Sky
i've had it about month now and loving it. Watching the football in HD is just amazing, the detail and rich colours on the screen are simply out this world. You nearly see every blade of grass on pitch. It will be interesting to see how this sky3D takes off in the next few months.
