Hey guys,

This is probably gonna be a little long winded, here goes!

Iv been messing around with screen capture, making little 5 to 10 minute clips. Finally thought that i had all the setting right to make a nice long good quality recording! Here what i did and what happened.

OS - Windows XP SP2 up to date with fixes. (All drivers are upto date also)
Program - CamStudio 2.00
Codec - Lagarith Lossless - Default settings
Capture size - 456x344
Audio - Uncompressed PCM
Time - Aprox. 3 hours recording

Right, so i make an aprox 3hr recording last night with the above settings. Captured some good stuff. Clicked the stop button. Program asked for a save name, i gave it one and clicked save! After a lot a proccessing i got an error message along the lines of "could not merge video and audio streams". No problem i thought, i have to compress them both seperatly anyways. So clicked the ok button.

Went to the sve folder. It contains an .avi file and a .wav file, awesome!

Clicked on the .avi, media player refused to open it. Then I realise its only a 4gb file - this should be somewhere around 18ish gb size. Sad

So checked the .wav file...its perfect, full length and right file size, no problem.

Here's the things Iv checked;

1st i thought shit maybe my drives fat32, checked...it deffo NTFS so all is good there. I tried to open in VLC, that just shows a progress bar for around 1 and half seconds then quites. GSpot says the avi is currupt (no shit)

Tried to compress with virtualdub and VDmod, just to see if it could salvage any goodness from the file...Both programs crash out upon loading the avi Sad

Iv done a few searches around google, found a few people having the same issues but no real solutions.

So really my question is. How do i record past the 4gb mark??

If anyone could shed any light on this situation, it would be greatly apreciated!

Thanks for reading guys Smile
Sorry to hear your having trouble.

You should try Bulent's Screen Recorder 4 & ACA Capture Pro I use them & i've had no trouble.
Cheers Ass2Cam for the heads up on them programs mate, i will look into them!

At the mo i really dont wanna change software (Iv learnt far to much about CamStudio not to try and resole the issue), but if i cant solve this problem i may have to!

I have a strange feeling its got something to do with the codec, I could be way off tho!

Cheers buddy
