Sorry its not computer related,

But now every time I turn off my TV my Sky+ box turns off too. It also turns on when I turn on my TV, but just the red standby light. I cant tun Sky on for 5 mins AFTER turning on my TV.

Needless to say I can no longer record anything once my TV is off. Help please?

I turned off my standby button, this made no difference.

Thank you

Sarah
Sounds odd. How do you turn off your TV - by remote or physically using the switch on the TV? If by remote, which remote do use - the one for the TV or the Sky+ one?

Unless someone knows why this is happening and can recommend specific advice, the first thing I'd try is replacing the batteries in your remote as dying batteries can cause remotes to do funny things.

If that fails, I'd try reconnecting various leads - scarts etc... and also resetting the Sky+ box (switch it off at the plug for 10+ minutes). Also, not sure what your TV is, but if its digital, maybe reset/switch that off for a period of time.
Thanks Skaty.

I use the main TV on off button to turn off the TV (samsung plasma) & the Sky remote for Sky. I never watch freeview & never use the TV remote. I have new batteries in the remote.

Its so damn frustrating as I wanted to record a programme on Alibi last night & couldnt.

I dont want to update the box as I did that once before & it wiped everything I had recorded.

If the worst comes to the worst, I will call them up & no doubt spend an hour going through the various "Do this, now do that" etc.

I just wondered if anyone else had come across this.

I appreciate you taking time to answer me.

Confused.com Huh
How the bloody hell do you manage to turn off the Sky box with the actual power switch on the TV? Surprised
I know you better than this but if it was anybody else I'd have to query if you weren't switching them both off at the wall socket via a power strip Rolleyes

Having said that if you do have them sharing a wall outlet via a power strip, double plug, or other such device it might be worth trying them separately as I've seen similar issues if one of the devices or the strip itself isn't isolating current properly. In theory it could even be the power outlet but I've yet to ever run across that so I'd rule other things out first before moving the whole kit to test on a separate ring main.

Can't comment on the Sky+ boxes myself as I prefer to use the standard box and separate PVR but being unable to turn on from standby consistently suggests a box problem somewhere but this might be an additional failure and not the root cause so check the stuff mentioned above as well
Thank you Red, & thanks for stating you 'Do know me" in that you know I'm actually quite tech savvy, but this threw me.

Anyway-problem solved!

Both units sharing one one surge protector. It worked fine & must have developed some fault, Now they use independent surge protectors & works fine.

Oh & Wolfie's sitting next to me & she says Hi too, she fidgets more than Kelly does!

Lesson here, if you get a problem, remove the surge protector & then try it-& hope that helps you too.

Thanks Red xx
Always a pleasure Sarah, glad it's sorted Smile

You might want to try the Plasma and Sky+ together on the other strip to isolate the problem though as if it occurs on both strips it'll more likely be the Plasma causing a power surge or brownout the strip can't handle rather than the strip at fault. If it is it could be sign of some of the caps or related components in the power system have failed. Not a major issue if it goes no further but if the Plasma has a warranty still might be worth getting checked out whilst the repairs are free Wink

Personally I'd not worry unless you started getting issues turning the Plasma on but thought I'd make you aware as don't want it failing completely on you outside warranty if symptoms are showing now and it still has cover

Don't worry about Wolfie, just trying to tell you that you're working too hard laugh
