Yeah so I robbed firekinds idea (sorry dude) and have decided to have the ultimate metal off with what I (and Rob Flynn) consider to be the best metal bands of all time. Actually I do not consider Metallica to be all that good and think they have only got a few truly great songs, so I was strongly contemplating putting in either Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath or AC/DC but I put these four in because they are the most well known. (Maybe not Pantera but they deserve to be here god damn it).

Anyway I am going to post each bands three best songs (I could not decide on just one for them), at least I think they are:

Metallica -

Iron Maiden -

Machine Head -

Pantera -

Fucking hell that was a bit of an effort. Ok my votes are VERY VERY close for the top 3:-

Iron Maiden, (Have they done a bad song)?

Pantera, (Such a huge fucking loss).

Machine Head, (Although if they release another album like The Blackening they could very easily go straight to top).

Metallica (Considering their past 4 albums have been truly wank I doubt they are going to ever get near the top of my list).

Your turn.
Metallica every time - the best live band I've seen. Big Maiden fan as well.
I have actually not seen any of these bands live (and I am PRETTY sure that I am not going to see one of them live, not in the iteration of them that is true anyway), but I was going to get tickets for Maiden when they were at Twickenham recently and I when I got back from work the day they went on sale they were fucking sold out, I was nearly inconsolable.
I've seen Maiden twice ('83 & 90) & bought there 1st album in 1980! They were great. My musical taste has moved on, but certainly one of the all time great metal bands. I saw Metallica in 95 or thereabouts - didn't want to go, but someone had a spare ticket & persuaded me. We were stood virtually in front of their revolving stage & to be fair, it was excellent. Stayed for the enchores, missed the last train home from Manchester & had to pay for a 30 mile taxi journey...well couldn't miss them covering "Breadfan".

I was a heavy rock fan & the line between rock & metal is pretty blurred. As a general rule, if it has keyboards or acoustic guitars, it's rock, but there are plenty of exceptions to break that rule. In the era I'm referring to, the bands I was mad on were; Deep Purple, Gillan, Rainbow, Bernie Torme, UFO, MSG, Maiden, Uriah Heep, Blackfoot, Thin Lizzy, Budgie, Trust, Motorhead, AC/DC & a little later; Dio, FM, Yngwie Malmsteen, Little Angels..

In terms of ' new metal' (1990 onwards), I only really rate Metallica, Megadeath & Slipknot, but I'm old school.
Pantera for me, I like the Paul D'ianno Maiden more than Bruce Dickinson although he does do a good job live. Never been into Machine head, Metallica have some good songs but I've never been heavliy into them, ...And justice for all is probally my fav albu mthey have ever released.

I've seen Pantera open for Judas Priest in 1990/91 on their Cowboys from hell tour, amazing, and the follow up tours were great too. Lucky enough to be infront of Dimebag each time r.i.p.
not a metal fan myself but my sister was and still is, i wouldnt say led zep were metal
but you have to have black sabbath in the greatest metal band's along with deep purple, judas priest, iron maiden, metalica and motley crue
Haha what a difficult question to answer.
Prob a tie between Maiden and Pantera for me, as I just can't choose a favourite. Beth Phoenix got me into Pantera, when she said her fave song was cemetary gates, and I haven't stopped listening to them since then. And around the same time I started listening to Maiden. My fave pantera song is prob walk, and there best known if I am not mistaken.
Why is there no megadeath included lol or even anthrax, the list is fucking endless for great metal bands! I do enjoy a little bit of Miley Cyrus now and again too Big Laugh
Blame Rob Flynn for the lack of metal bands, he is the one that voted the top 4 bands on this list, Megadeth should be up there, Anthrax I have never been a huge fan of, like some of their stuff though.
Iron Maiden for me
