Ben Wallace (current Defence Secretary).

Problem 1: Wallace wants no other job other than Defence so is unlikely to be fobbed off with promotion to Foreign Secretary etc.
Problem 2: He will not accept cuts to his own department and may resign if they happen. Bearing in mind Jeremy Hunt's assertion that all departments need to find efficiency savings this could be a headache for the new PM.
Problem 3: If Wallace gets what he wants and other departments suffer this could provoke public uproar and problems within the parliamentary party and even cabinet.

I would suggest that as Wallace has been doing an excellent job and we find ourselves a hair's breadth away from a shooting match with Russia, now is not the time to change Defence Secretary or cut his budget.

We could easily kick HS2 into the long grass and find the majority of the £30 Billion saving the treasury wants.

It's sadly lacking on all sides of the house. Unfortunately the Football Fan mentality blinds too many people to the fact that their side is just as bad as the other.

Or in other words, they're all cunts. Wink

Think it will be more of the same sadly from the tories, protect the rich & f**k the rest of society, especially if they're poor, vulnerable & disabled given Rishi said during the leadership campaign he as chancellor said he diverted funds from poor areas to rich areas & played the "demonise people on benefits" tory playbook saying people on benefits are lazy and scroungers even though most people who claim benefits are in work!!!

I think the more Sunak (& the Tories). reject the calls for a early GE, the more animosity and rejection of Sunak as PM will increase, by the public at large and tbh I think it will take a huge scandal of sorts I think to finally bring down the Tories and Sunak where they will find avoiding a call for GE absolutely impossible to avoid. And I wonder whether the standards committee appearance by Johnson and if he is found guilty could probably spark off a series pf events.

That first speech of his yesterday! Ye Gods…talk about wooden and robotic.

He has the gall to talk about fixing the economy…who was Chancellor for most of the past 2 years?!!

I’ll make a pretty safe prediction here right now that whenever the election comes he will lose every single one of the Northern ‘Red Wall’ seats that were gained at the 2019 election.

I don’t want to make light of what you said because the next couple of years are going to be not too pleasant for millions of people and frankly devastating for a number of people on the margins already. However, what you said reminded me of this comedy sketch by Not the Nine O-Clock News: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BI7fudmO7FY
