Social media - Cesspit of the modern age?

A platform for every conceivable conspiracy theory relating to virtually every conceivable subject.
A platform for a plethora of keyboard warriors to take personal offence to anything and everything only to then respond with an obscene level of toxic disrespect and nastiness.
A platform for wokeness to be seemingly redefined to terms that turn it into a reason for criticism or even insult.
A platform for intolerance, condescension, hypocrisy, two facedness and a glaring sense of personal entitlement mentality oozing through every word.
A platform for people to spout out endlessly deplorable vitriol and bile behind the mask of a keypad or keyboard in an at least partially justified belief they will get away with it.
A platform where people are all too keen to demand heads roll, sanctions and penalties be dished out to all and sundry for failures in responsibility or competence while not seemingly being able to face up to their own failings or abdication of responsibility without playing the victim card or getting aggressive due to being found out.

I gave up with Facebook and Instagram a long while ago.
I really should have done the same with Twitter, which by the way is the worst cesspit of the lot. I have stayed on it just to witness the ever increasing full extent of contemptuous bellendery and poo stirring stupidity play out with higher and higher levels of sanctimonious shithousery.

It's like a competition to see who can behave like the world's biggest imbecile.
Who can utter the most outrageously obnoxious bollocks in one sitting.
Who can troll to most damaging effect.

Social media has such a lot to answer for.

In my opinion, we (collectively as the human spices) have a great intellectual capacity to create new technologies (like social media). However, we completely lack the maturity to deal with the consequences of the technologies we invent for ourselves.

I would agree when we create a platform forvourselves to make our opinions be heard or seen many of us lack the compassion to accept the fact that other people's feelings are not going to be in agreemnt with us. The cyber bullying is a disturbing (which thankfully, I have not hadcdirected at me when on twitter or facebook) aspect of it, but the companies & the CO's of those platforms must make their staff be a lttle more supportive where possible when we report such incidents. A failure to act only makes those who commit such acts more able to get away with it.

What a mess it is. I have twitter but rarely use it, I have an Insta account, but that's just for looking at and liking pics, and Facebook is a nope, a true shithole, I have no interest in using the site at all.
When people tell me what x or y said on Twitter or Facebook, I'm glad I have little interest tbh, I would probably try to make them see sense or listen to reason, but doing so online is often pointless. There are so many people I no longer like very much due to them posting conspiracy theories, reposting lies and in some cases showing their true colours, by posting something that is clearly racist or homophobic, all while saying they're not racist or homophobic. Social media is making people less tolerant and more stupid. Friends, family, models, celebs, too many less likable.
I mean look, let's not pretend we're saints, most of us have posted something stupid or been a bit of a dick online, but when you engage in the extremes, buy into the lies and conspiracies and then share them either for attention or because you actually believe them, then you are part of the problem.

Social media is antisocial.

Too many suicides, depressions, eating disorders, body dysmorphias, addictions, and anxieties are caused or aggravated by this plague on mental health.

I remember when working at a large company and the IT department put a block on sites like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. The CEO said it was a regrettable action needed because they were too much of a drain on productivity.

I put my hand up and said, “if people are spending too much time on social media, I don’t think we have an IT problem — I think we have an HR problem!”

Sadly most babes wrongly think this forum is a cesspit too.

Hey there! I totally get where you're coming from about social media being negative sometimes. It sucks that people use it to spread hate and false information. But, I think it can still be a useful tool for connecting with friends and family or finding uplifting content.

Agree, social media can do plenty of good, which has to be remembered amongst all the negativity on it. It enables me for example to interact with my favourite wrestlers, regardless of where they are in the world, most recently Piper Niven from WWE
