RIP Martin Peters

1966 world cup winner Martin Peters has died age 76

It's always a sad occation when one of the World Cup winners dies.

How many are still standing do you know Charle? i think they have nearly all died now.

I think George Cohen, Sir Geoff Hurst obviously, Bobby Charlton, Alan Ball, Nobby Stiles(but very ill) can't think of any others at the present.

Respects given to the death of a member of that team, a team that England have tried to match ever since and have come close to equalling on a good many occasions, but never quite made that final push to greatness.

Martin played a integral part in the final doing his job in midfield and also scoring and played a large part of his club career for West Ham and Tottenham and making over 900 club appearances before retiring at Sheffield United in 1981. He was a British record transfer when he moved from West Ham to Tottenham in a £200,000 deal that saw Jimmy Greaves cross London and won the League cup twice and also the UEFA cup in the first all British final with Tottenham against Wolves in 1972.

Described by Sir Alf as a player "10 years ahead of his time" making 67 appearances for England and scoring 20 goals.
