Has VAR ruined football?

More VAR controversy today I see.
Way beyond a joke at this point though.

Burnley are actually one of the biggest beneficiaries of VAR overturns this season. Man Utd, Liverpool, West Ham and Chelsea have all had goals disallowed against Burnley by VAR, with Burnley only having 2 of their goals disallowed, against Notts Forest and Crystal Palace. In addition Burnley were given a penalty against Brentford which they scored from (with VAR also giving the Brentford player a red card).

It has reached a point where some friends of mine who regularly attend Wolves matches don't want to go anymore because they say the joy of celebrating goals has been removed.

It's a case of ball hits back of the net.
Right, get the stopwatch out to see how many minutes it takes for the VAR to chalk it off . I mean FFS .

Not against the principle of VAR, but they’ve absolutely botched the execution in my view.

They used to compare it to tennis, but in tennis it really only checks one thing: ball in or out (…and very rarely a foot fault). In football they are using VAR to second guess goals, fouls, offsides, on- and off-the-ball action, etc. It’s too much.

And I agree with Snooks’ friends — it is a major change to the experience and atmosphere in the stadium. Not a good one.

Fuck it off. Good to see Sweden had the good sense to say no to introducing it probably saw how it has made our league worse and said no and with every game having the equivalent of a period of extra time in stoppage time every game nowadays is a another joke.

The below figures for the Premier League this season show that Wolves have indeed suffered more than their share of VAR disallowed goals.

Goals given on the field of play, excluding goals to Wolves: 1092
Goals disallowed by VAR: 40 (3.7%)

Goals given to Wolves on the field of play: 52
Goals disallowed by VAR: 4 (7.7%)

I think VAR is being way over used for things it wasn't designed or brought into to do.

Once the season is over, I very much hope the FA & PL do take a long look at how VAR used over the summer for next season and invite fans to suggest which decisions VAR SHOULD be solely used for in a way that brings down VAR intrerruptio to a game.

I think if they look at the way TMO is used in both rugby codes (I'm sure it is used in both codes) - I think THAT should be the starting point for any discussion on a revamp/review tbh. How TMO works in rugby is HOW it should work (IMO in principle) - in soccer.

I still think maybe one opton could be to reduce VAR down to a challenge - type system for managers only might be one way (I would sugesst maybe two challenges per half) as a trial. Or the team captain is given the challenge option on field. (Didn't they bring in a rule where only only the captain was allowed to approach the referee? I am sure also that is the rule in rugby - I might be wrong on that one).

But overall, I feel the referee should be given far more freedom to use his own gut instinct where possible and overrule VAR advice.
The amount of time wasted in a game for VAR needs to come down to a point where interruption for VAR to the flow of the game ends up being as minimal as possible. And that I feel is the true nuts & bolts to the whole system of VAR use.

But knowing the FA & PL I bet they will do sweet FA about it and say it is fine as it is.

I'll never understand the referee's and VAR. They allow goals when they have delibrately been created with a trailing leg for example, but they fail to give then for pulls, pushes and what can only be described as rugby tackles.
