No, I didn't say that. I don't suppose any transaction can ever be entirely safe, as there are always things that can go wrong. The point I'm making is that buying porn is actually safer than buying most other things you can find online.

Still, the important thing with your experience is that despite something going wrong, you did nevertheless get your money back. It's tough that you took a hit on the exchange rate, but then if the exchange rate had gone the other way you would have ended up in profit. Your point is taken that you lost out in that way, which was no doubt annoying for you, but I've noticed that a lot of sites now allow a choice of currencies on sign up, so these days it's often possible to avoid any exchange rate transactions

sorry mate - primarily im talking about card numbers being potentially abused - i'm just using the example of how they behave with our mobile numbers to show why i dont trust them 100%

Why are some people here seemingly intent on warranting the 'safety' of paying for porn online with a credit card, despite various examples of why only a mug would... Like gambling, it's a system set up to only benefit the company; the punters have zero powers really...

I simply cannot understand why anyone would still advocate handing over your 16-digit number, expiry date, security number etc to a porn firm...

If there was really any danger the credit card companies would not allow cards to be used for that purpose. Some credit card companies recognise gambling as a danger and do not allow their cards to be used for gambling.

They aren't. It's just that you're not reading their comments very well. They are making the point that rarely does any porn firm ever get hold of your details, as the credit card companies usually insist on them using a payment provider, a company that the credit card companies recognise as established and trustworthy. If you read what people are saying more carefully you would doubtless have understood by now.

Telephone tipsters operate pretty much the same system as these channels... I could count on one hand the racing services that were trusted enough by the banks, and the adult industry is in the same boat...

Basically very few businesses that are considered "high risk" by the banks will be provided with a "direct merchant account". This is when 3rd party credit/debit card providers come in, so banks have no direct responsibility if things go wrong... They usually charge much higher commission fees, and are still not easy to get accounts with (I had to get 3 business references).

I'm here to help - if my help's not appreciated then lotsa luck, gentlemen.

Thanks, but I need scant assistance in apprehending the innate meaning of a point made. MY point is that some of the denizens of this board may well choose to believe that sufficient porn firms employ the 3rd party billing services of apparently 'reputable' firms, but I don't believe such firms are the majority. Thus I stand by my intrinsic disbelief that many peoples' trust in such firms is warranted.

You're wrong Bertie500, they are the majority. In fact nearly all porn companies use 3rd party billing services because the credit card companies want it that way.

Yes Bertie500 is still not reading things correctly. He was replying to Roger's post but to repeat what Roger said "the credit card companies usually insist on them using a payment provider".
