News special thing on beeb2 right now. Just caught a glimpse, they are suggesting there may be as many as 76 people still missing!

According to the truely sincerely careing Lily Allen, it's 150, and she should know.

If it's anything less than 100 it would be amazing considering 400 - 600 people lived in the place.

ignoring your sarcastic tone, she's a local resident at the scene and is citing firefighters and police off the record estimates. so it's an educated guess, but likely not far wrong.

i mean ffs, why do you have to have that tone in your posts. maybe she does care. it doesn't always have to be a nefarious conspiracy!

I didn't say that the refit wasn't needed there... if you consider them to be in the right building that is. I only say that decisions are made that put a value on human life (as they are with certain new cancer drugs for example) and there is a suspicion that certain lives are accessed as of higher value than others.

Damn straight. It was nearly four years before the inquest came to a decision on 2009's Lakanal House. It was February this year before Southwalk Council was fined 570K (the cost of two sprinkler systems say) for their part in the fatalities there.

As has been said, it's hard not to be cynical of the future on this one. The anger will be allowed to dissipate. Then, even if negligence is found, any responsibility will be assuaged with "reasonable" fines and the odd low-level scarificial lamb. After which it will be business as usual. The victims of Grenfill desperately need a lasting Hillsborough-like vigil on this one. Don't let these people off the hook - whomever is proved to be at fault.

EDIT: I don't think the results of the inquiry are needed to conclude that a building like that shouldn't have gone up like a roman candle when you look at the history and background to this. It's a political situation to which political resolutions were missed in the past. And to which political solutions are required again now. To let the imputus drop from that agenda would be neglectful to the victims and has the feeling of running scared of everything that's going on election-wise.

Portillo hinted last night that the death toll will be horrffic, he also battered May for her leadership on this sad tragic fire and for her detachment frrom the public...living in a bubble...Are you scared Mrs May of being killed by terrorists?? well get a fuckin grip so is everyone in this country..Mrs Thatcher would have had a brick in her handbag to batter a knifeman.
As an child of immigrant family, Portillo ,who is behind brexit, must be a fair view of our crippling membership of EU. He would of made a good and strong PM...well better than ANYONE else around at the moment.

Common sense would be that all cladding would be fire resistant. Sadly common sense dosn't seem to apply in fire regulations. How many other high rise flats are death traps? Years of neglect catching up on the poorest. That video of Boris telling the guy concerned with fire safety to "Get Stuffed" should be enough to get him removed from office, clearly he is not fit for any factor of government.

Any way, I was watching the news yesterday and there was a man on there, he was telling the news reporter that he was on the phone to his wife whilst she was traped in the building, he said he had not heard from her since.

No, I don't want to see are hear anything about Adele looking concerned, Lily Allen saing there was a lot more deaths, Jamie Oliver has made some pies, the fruit loop corbyn saying they should be housed in luxery kensington houses.

The peoples stories WHO ACTUALLY LIVE IN THE BLOCK is more than enough.

Nor do I want to hear, oh it's Mays faulk the sprinklers weren't working, and isn't she terrible not visiting the victems.

It's not a celeb thing, it's not a political thing it's a human disaster.
