I'm tempted to agree with you, because it does seem quite plausible, but today's reports are saying that the plane followed a very specific flight path into the Indian Ocean, rather than flying on a general heading back to Malaysia and beyond. I get the impression that investigators feel the route they think the plane took must have been a planned one and not something that could be the result of any confused actions.

They seem like pretty regular guys by all accounts. The pilot was a bit of a geek with a flight simulator at home. The co-pilot is said to have allowed some women into the cockpit on one occasion, but officially has no stain on his character. Neither is regarded as having had any personal or psychological problems.

I'm thinking of a pilot suicide together with attempt to hide the evidence. Do either of the families have big life insurance? If the immediate cause of the crash is eventually determined to be the plane running out of fuel, then the evidence of suicide may have been successfully destroyed, with no obvious nosedive or suicide manouvre apparent.

I'm returning to the thought that some sort of emergency is the most plausible explanation, regardless of the claims that the plane was deliberately flown to the Indian Ocean. I think the pilots turned the plane around, the emergency resulted in a loss of communication first and then developed into a Helios 522 scenario and then the flight continued until it ran out of fuel.

There were plenty of mobile phones on board that they could have used.
