Clive Dunn 1920 - 2012 RIP
[Image: image-5BC3_509A909D.jpg]

Clive Dunn, who was best known as Corporal Jones in "Dad's Army", has died at the age of 92 following complications after an operation.

Dunn had had minor film roles in the 1930s and worked in music hall and variety. He spent more than four years as a prisoner of war during WWII before getting his first breaks in the Tony Hancock Show and Bootsie & Snudge.

Dunn specialised in playing doddery old men when he was only in his 30s and 40s and he became a household name as the fearless Corporal Jones in the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard platoon. "DON'T PANIC!!" and "They don't like it up 'em!" became catchphrases.

In 1971 he had a number 1 single with "Grandad" and played the character of that name in the childrens TV show from 1979 - 1984, after which he retired to Portugal where he lived for the rest of his life.

92 bloody hell as old as that Wink Well he has lived a good life. His catchphrase of "Don't panic" has more or less made it's way into the latest edition of the dictionary. His comedy timing was unique and he will forever be remembered for his role in Dad's army. I'll forgive him for the infamous Grandad song which was infact a Christmas Number 1, the least said about that number the better. Anyway RIP to another legend of the comedy circuit. Lived a life was a full one, right up to the very end.

Definitely a sad loss...He always made me laugh in whatever I've seen him in,and 92 years off age was a great innings, for a very funny man.
A sad loss for british comedy.

Very tragic news indeed, another great icon of british comedy we have lost, Clive was a very funny man and a true gentleman, Dads Army is a fantastic legacy to leave behind as a testament to the great mans comedic talent. R.I.P Clive.

A great actor in a classic series, Corpral Jones and most of the cast may have passed on now, but will never be forgotten. Clive Dunn was every one's grandad. R.I.P.Clive.

Clive Dunn's death means that the only surviving members of the original cast are 67-year-old Ian Lavender (Private Pike) and 86-year-old Bill Pertwee (ARP Warden Hodges).

Timothy Williams is still alive at the age of 81 but his character (the Vicar) wasn't introduced until later in the run.
