I suspect the reason is because they can more carefully frame angles and shots and edit out "slips" on pre-recorded material but don't trust the skill of the camera operators on live shows - and maybe don't trust the performers not to be getting carried away even? - not to inadvertently show something that would fall foul of regulators, even if it's only for seconds.

I guess you could put a longer delay on the transmission to help them do live cutaways/edits but that would need 2 cameras and the extra time-lag would compromise further the phone call experience ?

They rarely use phones on the liveshows now so maybe recording them earlier in the evening would make for a better end product. The difference between the liveshows and the recorded videos has been getting a lot more noticeable recently.

I see they are advertising a 10 minute free view preview like the other adult subscription channels do

^ I happened to catch an extended ad on channel 174 last night as I was flicking through at about 2:20 am. It was the same sort of thing they used to show between 11-11:30. At the end of it, it said 'you have 30 seconds to comply' and said it was £5, even though it was after 2 o'clock and was advertised at £3 on BS1.

All these extended ads at the mo are just shortening the show,recording wise it must be a nightmare if you are recording it through the channel guide which is now all in sections....so why dont bsx do what tvx do and put the whats on in the channel guide on freeview?

I want to make it absolutely clear, I have nothing against Faye. She's not my type, but that's not relevant. What's relevant is that this is descending , past the farcical, to the depths of unbelievable!

sadly though, it is all too believable !

I had to laugh when Faye was advertised for one night only, she has been around longer than Bruce Forsyth.
