Also enjoyed the Craic. I knew Eccles was known for its cakes, and had good Irish music in the area, but did not know of its reputation for caravans.

The Caravan company Eccles was sold in the sixties and I think is now owned by Swift in Cottingham near Hull which claims to be the largest village in England.
It was originally founded in Birmingham in 1919 and I'm not aware of a connection to the eponymous town in Lancashire, home of the famous "cake" (personally I prefer the Chorley cake with it's shortcrust pastry).
There's some talk on the caravanning forum of a dogging weekend on Cannock Chase to celebrate the Eccles centenary, I'll keep you posted on any developments on this front.
